CEO & Co-Foudner Dominik Fürste presented the achievements and future of the Intermodal Transport initiative, focusing on reducing CO2 emissions and improving air quality. The project underscores the importance of digitalization in making logistics more sustainable and economically viable, paving the way for continued growth in intermodal transport. Hupac Group is launching new routes and improving existing connections to increase the efficiency and sustainability of intermodal transport. One of the key innovations will be a new shuttle train between Ghent in Belgium and Piadena, southeast of Milan. Three services per week will be offered initially, with the possibility of increasing the frequency.

🌍🚛 How can digital platforms revolutionize intermodal freight transport by combining environmental sustainability with logistical flexibility? I’m excited to share our latest research paper, “Digital platforms in intermodal freight transport: an analysis of emerging business models and their future dynamics”, recently published in the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management (IJPDLM)! Together with Paul Bossong and Anne Reinhardt, we explored how intermodal freight transport—which leverages eco-friendly rail transport alongside the flexibility of truck transport—is being transformed by digital platforms. 💡 Key takeaways from our research: 1) We identified four unique archetypes of platform business models emerging in the intermodal freight transport market, offering clear insights into their structure and characteristics. 2) Through interviews with platform providers, platform users, and intermodal market consultants, we analyzed how these business models are likely to evolve in the future. 3) Our findings provide a roadmap for understanding how digitization can further increase the attractiveness of environmentally friendly intermodal freight transport. Our CEO Mathew Paul is attending the Port Technology International - PTI Green Tech Conference, where we saw innovative speakers like José Andrés Giménez Maldonado from Terminal Industry Committee 4.0 - TIC4.0 and Fundación Valenciaport take center stage. José highlighted the groundbreaking work on the Paula Platform in Valencia Port, enhancing port call transparency and integrating business processes for more efficient operations 🚢. The focus on setting standards in a fragmented industry is crucial. José elaborated on how TIC4.0 collaborates with industry giants and organizations like Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) to pave the way for standardized data usage across the sector. This is a game-changer in how we understand and manage the complexities of port operations. There was also an insightful presentation by Kristina Jumelet from Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), discussing the Standards for Operational Vessel Schedules and the concept of 'Just in Time Port Calls' ⏱️. This approach not only streamlines operations but also significantly cuts down on unnecessary carbon emissions. Ani Matcharashvili from PortXchange [B-Corp], a spinoff from the Port of Rotterdam, shared their journey on port call optimization. Their platform demonstrates a powerful sequence: Standardize ➡️ Digitalize ➡️ Collaborate ➡️ Optimize. This method is setting new benchmarks in how ports can drastically enhance efficiency and sustainability 🌍. The conference is a melting pot of ideas and a clear indicator that when we unify standards and collaborate effectively, the impact on carbon reduction and port efficiency is profound and far-reaching.
