ICYMI: EU AI ACT APPROVED The next 12 to 24 months will be critical for clients using AI tools in the EU, to ensure compliance. You need to comply even if you have no offices in the EU; as long as your product or service has AI in it and is used in the EU and fits into a risk category, you need to comply with regulation. What steps are you taking to ensure compliance? "The flagship legislation follows a ‘risk-based’ approach, which means the higher the risk to cause harm to society, the stricter the rules. It is the first of its kind in the world and can set a global standard for AI regulation." https://lnkd.in/dHTpHGyj #airegulation #euaiact

Some News to start the day with, the EU decided on their first AI act. Though good news, it will take until 2025 for the laws to be in effect. I’m not sure or they are looking to deviate from normal timelines to shorten this period at this time. Some of the things AI can not be used for under the Banned applications list. Recognising the potential threat to citizens’ rights and democracy posed by certain applications of AI, the co-legislators agreed to prohibit: 1️⃣ untargeted scraping of facial images from the internet or CCTV footage to create facial recognition databases; emotion recognition in the workplace and educational institutions; 2️⃣ social scoring based on social behaviour or personal characteristics; 3️⃣ AI systems that manipulate human behaviour to circumvent their free will;
