Find out about the role of landscape architects in creating low-carbon landscapes, and the steps that can be taken to achieve net zero? In this webinar, using the research undertaken to advise the Landscape and Carbon Report, landscape architect and author Claire Thirlwall, CMLI BA(Hons) Dip. LA, will explore those questions. Landscape and Carbon is a vital new report on carbon reduction in the UK landscape sector by the Landscape Institute (LI) and British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI). The report is a call to action for the entire landscape sector, and wider industry, to work together and use its combined skill and expertise to reduce carbon in landscape schemes and works. LAF invites landscape architecture professionals to complete our 2024 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Survey for Landscape Architects and Designers. https://lnkd.in/eeD5RCMY This survey mirrors a 2019 effort by LAF to conduct the first discipline-wide individual and organizational surveys addressing DEI issues. This new survey will allow us to compare results to understand whether and how things have changed over the last 5 years. The survey takes 15-20 minutes to complete. All responses will be anonymous. (Note that this survey is for individuals who are landscape architecture professionals, not students or educators. If you are not a trained landscape architect by experience or education, please do not complete the survey.) As the expert on your own experiences, LAF wants to hear from you! The questions get at how inclusive you find your workplace and the profession overall to be, as well as what resources you think might be helpful to further support DEI.

As a part of my master's thesis 'Assemblages of Urban Flow—scapes' at Det Kongelige Akademi, I developed a catalogue to serve as a strategic framework when developing contemporary rainwater management infrastructures. The strategic framework synthesises the research into five key principles. The five key principles act as guidelines for how the typology of the trench can be reactualised as a link in rainwater management. A link that fosters visible and accessible urban flowscapes for the agencies within the urban environment. The research builds upon case studies of two courtyards developed through the 'Climate Resilient Neighbourhood, Østerbro' project initiated by Københavns Kommune and HOFOR. The first case being the 'The Courtyard Gardens of the Future at Straussvej' developed by BOGL, WSP Danmark and Lendager. The second case being 'The Courtyard Gardens of the Future at Askøgade' developed by Kuben Management A/S, Niels Lützen Landscape Architects, LABLAND architects, Envidan Denmark, and Urgent.Agency. Other contemporary projects are mentioned as state-of-the-art references, to highlight how the five key principles are implemented in recently constructed climate adaptations. These projects include 'Karens Minde Aksen' (schønherr), and 'The Courtyard Gardens of the Future at Tomsgårdsvej (SLA, NIRAS). The catalogue also presents the proposed strategy by developing speculative scenarios at Ågadeparken, to situate and reiterate it through site-specific narratives. You can read more about the project and the process here: https://lnkd.in/d3kGcyWq And thanks to Jens Linnet, Niels Lützen, Lene Andersen, and Anders Jørn Jensen for providing valuable insights! #urbandesign #rainwatermanagement #climateadaptation
