❌ Myth: Facility managers don't add value to the organization. Some may perceive facility management as a cost center rather than a value-added function. ✅ Fact: Facility managers play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of a facility, optimizing resource utilization, and creating a safe and productive environment for employees and visitors. Facilities management has more stakeholders than any other function in any organization. They touch everyone, which alone emphasizes the criticality of their role. FM is expensive, and if you look at just the 'nuts and bolts' maintenance and operation of the built environment, you could see it as a cost centre. But that's where strategy, creativity, and innovation play a role. FM, done right, is not a transactional service provider but a strategic partner aligned to the mission and vision of the organization it supports. IFMA is 100%, and FM leaders need to emphasize this within their own organizations.

When facilities managers are not burdened by non-critical corporate functions, and if the FM's direct supervisor is forward-thinking, then they can be a leading force for improvement and change.

Currently dealing with this mindset at my company. This stresses the importance of having solid performance tracking metrics and good benchmarking to support the importance of facilities roll in an organization.

So true, I some organisations they're treated lower than a store or retail park manager, when if fact they're a crucial part of an organisation, the hub of a wheel.
