Leaving the nurturing arms of Angel Oak for the promising horizons of Stiles Point on James Island was a leap into a new chapter of my teaching career. Lured by the allure of a quaint neighborhood school and guided by the wisdom of a mentor, I found myself at the doorstep of an opportunity that resonated. Interviewing with Principal Steve Burger, I felt an immediate connection with the school's vision, eager to dive into this new adventure. Extraordinary Educators Walking into Stiles Point, I was welcomed into a fellowship of master educators—Katie, Dana, Barbara, and Mary Beth. Their classrooms were realms of wonder, where every child's voice was heard and challenges transformed into triumphs. Amidst our brainstorming sessions, I marveled at their meticulous planning and innovative approaches. They were my Yodas, imparting wisdom and igniting a drive within me to push the boundaries of what I believed possible in education. Student Creativity: Diving into Roald Dahl's universe with The BFG was always a favorite of my students. We ventured through Giant Country, sipped Frobscottle, and embraced the quirks of friendship with a giant. The pinnacle was a student's ambitious project—a life-size BFG that towered in our library, a monument to the power of creativity when students are encouraged to dream big and bold. The Game-Changer:  The arrival of the Smartboard in my classroom changed everything. Rolled in during the suspense of state testing week, it quickly became our window to interactive learning. Bye Bye overhead projector. From constructing rollercoasters on Rollercoaster Tycoon to sparking lively discussions, it reshaped our educational experiences. This tool not only transformed my teaching approach but also catapulted me into a new role helping teachers realize the potential of meaningful Smartboard use for Charleston County. Reflecting on my journey at Stiles Point fills me with gratitude for the incredible community of educators, students, and technology that shaped my path. Do you know how rare it is to have an attendee of one of your events actually take action? Believe me - it is pretty rare! Thank goodness Jennifer Martire Baukol is in the 1%. I was thinking this morning that I need to give Bob a shout and ask for a deep discount on a bulk supply of his books because they are absolutely a gift I want to give to anyone that would actually read it!!! Truly important reading with story telling that is well crafted and built for ease! A little about this book and why I so strongly recommend that you buy the hard copy and/or listen to it on Audible. "The Go-Giver," co-authored by Bob Burg and John David Mann, is a business book that espouses a philosophy based on giving. The book outlines five laws of stratospheric success, which are as follows: 1) The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment. This law suggests that the key to successful business is to focus first on providing immense value to others. 2) The Law of Compensation: Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them. This means the more people you help and the more value you provide to them, the more financially successful you will be. 3) The Law of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first. It proposes that the best way to build influence and achieve success is to constantly and consistently provide value to others and to put their interests ahead of your own. 4) The Law of Authenticity: The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself. This law emphasizes the importance of being genuine and authentic, suggesting that real success comes not from the skills you have but from being real and authentic with others. 5) The Law of Receptivity: The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving. It suggests that giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin, and being open to receiving is as important as giving. It's about the flow of giving and receiving that creates abundance. These laws serve as a framework for building success, not just in business, but in life as well, by focusing on giving value, making a positive impact on others, and maintaining authentic relationships. A lot of books speak about giving however the Go Giver has been the first book that opened my eyes to how to be open to receiving.
