A new prospective cohort study & Mendelian randomization analysis by Greve et al provided compelling evidence that elevated #triglycerides are a causal risk factor for developing #psoriasis. In an editorial Alexander Sorokin and I argue that future work should evaluate the impact of lowering triglycerides on psoriasis severity and development of #psoriaticarthritis, #diabetes, and atherosclerotic #cardiovasculardisease in this at risk population. More than 4 crore Indian children are born with a genetic defect where their body does not produce or destroy Haemoglobin in Red Blood Cells, called Thalassemia. The end result of the disorder is generally identified as constant anaemia in the individual. The Indian government defines rare diseases as those that affect fewer than 1 in 5,000 individuals. Despite the lower prevalence compared to more common ailments, rare diseases collectively impact considerable number of people in the country. What are the types of rare diseases? Rare diseases encompass a vast array of conditions, ranging from genetic disorders to autoimmune diseases and rare cancers. Each rare disease presents unique clinical features, diagnostic criteria, and management approaches, necessitating specialized care and collaboration among healthcare professionals.
