As Benjamin Franklin famously said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." While stated nearly 300 years ago, this still rings true, especially in protecting yourself from infection as a person living with IgG4-RD. Supporting CMV Awareness Month with GeneProof Cytomegalovirus Kit! June is Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Awareness Month, a crucial time to highlight the importance of CMV testing. Often underdiagnosed, CMV is a common virus that is harmless to most people but can be dangerous to immunocompromised individuals and babies. When passed from mother to unborn child, a congenital infection can develop, leading to serious long-term health issues. By increasing awareness and providing cutting-edge diagnostic tools like the GeneProof Cytomegalovirus Kit, we can significantly impact the prevention of CMV infection. Early and accurate detection, along with viral load monitoring, is essential in improving the health and well-being of those affected by CMV. Join us in spreading awareness and promoting early detection! Why Choose GeneProof Cytomegalovirus Kit? • High Sensitivity & Specificity: Ensures accurate results, reducing false negatives and positives. • User-Friendly: Easily combinable with other GeneProof PCR kits in OneWorkflow Find out more about GeneProof CMV Kit here: https://lnkd.in/g-KqksEP #CMVAwarenessMonth #CMV #GeneProof #EarlyDetection #Diagnostics #PCR #PCRKits #PCRDiagnostics #MolecularDiagnostics

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: ‘𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧’ The 28th of July is World Hepatitis Day, a global campaign to raise awareness and galvanise action towards eliminating viral hepatitis. Across Australia, there are nearly 300,000 people who live with chronic hepatitis B or hepatitis C. Of this total number, around 200,000 are people living with hepatitis B. While there have been tremendous developments in the treatment and prevention of both hepatitis C and B in recent years, much work remains to be done. As recent viral mapping reports (https://lnkd.in/gRZkvt9E), around 75 percent of people living with hepatitis B are not being supported by the health system to receive regular care; and over 25 percent of people living with chronic hepatitis B infection have not been supported to access testing and therefore remain undiagnosed, and potentially unaware of their infection. Co-infections are not simply the sum of their parts. In this study, researchers infected mice with Borrelia afzelii (a cause of Lyme disease in Europe) and tick-borne encephalitic virus (TBEV, another disease found in Europe). When they tried to infect mice with both at the same time, they had trouble causing a TBEV infection. They caution that this may have been an issue with their methods and not necessarily that B. afzelii infection blocks simultaneous infection with TBEV. When they infected the mice with TBEV shortly after the B. afzelii, the symptoms were worse with higher viral levels. However, if they waited 21 days, the TBEV symptoms were milder. The authors note that tick-borne disease coinfection is very common for people with Lyme disease and much more needs to be known about all possible coinfections. https://lnkd.in/eNNvYsMK

Hepatitis C crash course # 2 Testing: 1. Check a hepatitis C virus antibody. If positive, then 2. Check hepatitis C virus RNA for active infection Why is that important? Some patients get automatic clearing of hepatitis C, and patients who have been successfully treated for hepatitis C; both of those kind of cases will continue to have a positive antibody, so just having a positive antibody does not mean the patient has active infection.
