Salon clients don’t go retailing, they go shopping. Salons don’t “sell retail’, they recommend solutions, using their professional expertise and experience, to keep their clients feeling beautiful and happy between visits to the salon. Happy salon clients create more happy salon clients, creating happy salon businesses with high lifetime salon client value. Over a year ago, I made the bold decision to start charging for consultations and patch tests with all new clients seeking waxing treatments at my salon. This isn’t a common practice among waxing salons, so I knew I was setting a new trend in the industry. Here’s what I’ve learned over the past 12 months: 1. People are willing to invest in knowledge and expertise when they truly believe in your skills as an expert. 2. When clients pay for your time, they are more likely to listen and engage fully in the consultation process. 3. While I may have fewer new clients, those who do come in have a genuine respect for the business and a strong desire to become regular visitors. 4. The concern of clients arriving with hair that’s too short is no longer an issue, as the fee ensures they are prepared and informed. 5. The consultation process alleviates many fears and manages client expectations, leading to a more confident experience for their initial treatment. I am so glad I introduced this service.
