THRIVING STRATEGY TWO: BOUNDARIES. Ignite Afterschool just launched Be It, an expansion pack for Believe It. Build It., Minnesota's Guide to Effective Afterschool Practices. Be It includes six thriving strategies that elevate your youth work to new heights. Stay tuned for the next Thriving Strategy! WHAT IT MEANS: Your relationship with young people is both authentic and professional, with appropriate limits on your role in a young person’s life. You stay within healthy and respectful boundaries, and recognize there is a power imbalance because of your role as a youth worker. WHY IT MATTERS: Youth workers tend to have a great deal of passion for helping young people and compassion for the challenges they face. This emotional connection can serve as a powerful spark for fostering relationships. (In fact, building positive, trusting relationships with young people is an afterschool effective practice!) But we’re still professionals, so we must maintain professional boundaries that protect youths’ physical and psychological safety. Where exactly that line is drawn often varies from one situation to the next, so it’s important to have regular reflections and discussions with your supervisor and coworkers. Then, turn those conversations into opportunities to continuously clarify policies that identify appropriate boundaries. MANAGER ACTION ITEM: Do your organization’s policies and training address appropriate boundaries? Do This: Review your policies with staff. Discuss various scenarios and identify any questions about appropriate boundaries that are not addressed in your current policies. See Building Block 6 on page 27 for inspiration. 🔑 Unlocking Success: 4 Keys to Conquer the Option Part C! 1️⃣ Share the Option Rubric with Your Year 11 Students: Transparency is key! Equip your students by providing them with the Option rubric. By understanding the assessment criteria from the outset, they'll gain clarity on what is expected and can align their efforts accordingly. 📝💡 2️⃣ Look for Opportunities to Assess Like This in Year 11: To excel in the Option Part C, practice makes perfect! Integrate similar assessment tasks throughout Year 11, allowing students to hone their skills and become familiar with the specific requirements. By the time the HSC Exam arrives, they'll be well-prepared and confident in their abilities. 📚✏️ 3️⃣ Show the Marking Guidelines to Your Students: Demystify the marking process! Display the Marking Guidelines to your students, illustrating the standards they should aim for in their responses. Encourage them to self-evaluate and seek continuous improvement by referring to these guidelines throughout their preparation. 📖🔍 4️⃣ Teach Them Explicitly How to Relate Back to Wellbeing: The heart of CAFS lies in the concept of wellbeing. Empower your students with the knowledge of how to explicitly connect their Option Part C responses back to this core theme. Guide them to explore the interconnectedness between concepts, theories, and the ultimate goal of fostering individual and community wellbeing. 🌱❤️

Professional Organizer - I help busy professionals / new homeowners / seniors / overwhelmed individuals; 📚 Services: de-clutter & organize | stress-free moves into new homes | downsizing
📚 The Link Between an Organized Home and Academic Success 🎓 As a professional organizer, I've seen firsthand how a well-maintained home can significantly impact a child's ability to focus and succeed academically. Reflecting on my own childhood, I realize just how crucial an organized environment is for effective studying and achieving good grades. Growing up in an unorganized home, I faced constant distractions from clutter. Every time I sat down to do my homework, I felt compelled to tidy up first. This took up valuable time and energy, leaving me to study only in the evenings when I was already exhausted. It was a struggle to concentrate with so much chaos around me. Now, I am passionate about helping families create and maintain organized spaces so their children can thrive academically. Here’s why an organized home matters: ✨ Reduces Distractions: A clutter-free environment allows children to focus solely on their studies, without the visual and mental distractions of mess. 😌 Promotes Calm and Focus: An organized space creates a serene atmosphere, reducing stress and anxiety, which is vital for effective learning. 🔄 Establishes Routines: Consistent organization helps children develop and stick to routines, fostering discipline and time management skills that are essential for academic success. 🙌 To all the parents out there: investing in an organized home is an investment in your child’s future. Let’s work together to create environments where our children can focus, learn, and excel. If you need assistance or tips on how to start, I’m here to help! #AcademicSuccess #OrganizedHome #ProfessionalOrganizer #Focus #StudyEnvironment #ChildDevelopment #HomeOrganization

You know those days when you get to school or work (this isn’t only for students and educators) and really just want to drive right out of the parking lot and go back home? I don’t mean the regular Monday morning “wishing it were still the weekend” feeling. I mean, not wanting to face whatever it is you anticipate you’ll have to deal with during the day ahead. When that happens (and it does happen, even to the best and most dedicated educators), there’s one thing that makes everything either instantly better or exponentially more challenging. People! When you’re greeted by caring, supportive colleagues who are happy to see you and have your back, even monumental challenges become doable. You find meaning, purpose, and even playfulness in the difficult tasks you're tackling. Days may be hard. But they’re also really good. And you leave at the end of the day tired, yet fulfilled. Alternatively, when you’re greeted by angry, aggressive, anxious, upset colleagues who undermine you, gossip about you, and belittle you, even tasks that would otherwise be easy and enjoyable can feel unbearable. What’s the answer? If only it were as easy as . . . get along better. Because when we’re not getting along professionally, it’s not a matter of improving our social skills. There’s one of three reasons. Confusion . . . we don’t understand each other Overwhelm . . . we don’t have or agree upon reasonable priorities for what is to be accomplished in the time and with the resources available to us Resistance . . . we don’t agree with each other All three of these reasons relate to the foundations on which we build our schools: vision (what we want to create), mission (how we’re creating it), and core values (why we want to create it, and who we want to become in the process). Confusion is a vision problem, solved with gaining clarity. Overwhelm is a mission or implementation problem, solved with achieving focus. Resistance is a values problem, solved with cultivating shared purpose and alignment on what truly matters most. Want to explore ways to cultivate clarity, focus, and purpose, so that you can uplevel school culture and quality with less stress and more joy? Get on the waitlist to join Purpose Inspired Education (PIE) Village, a community of heart centered educators working together to improve our schools. I know many feel like their child's marks is all that counts. It isn't. More important than marks is the student taking responsibility for their learning. That includes doing their best, seeking help when necessary, meeting deadlines. Those are life skills and the skills sought after in the work world, regardless of the job. Parents who jump in and rescue a child struggling with their work do them a disservice. Those students do not learn how to take responsibility and problem solve. Many are those whose launch into adulthood is delayed or may never even get off the launching pad. So as the school year unfolds and if your child meets with hardship, do not do their work. Rather, encourage, guide and facilitate. Encourage them to seek input from their teacher, offer suggestions such as remedial help or tutoring, facilitate their accessing supportive resources. Be their cheerleader for efforts and their moral support for enduring the challenges they encounter. Let your expectations not be focused on their grades, but their management of their education. With that, regardless of the grade, they will have the skills most employers appreciate. They show up, address what needs to be done and seek support for success when necessary. Encourage, guide and facilitate.
