IGO is excited to once again support the Telethon Kids Institute’s Broome STEM Festival which will be held from 7-8 August, following the success of last year’s inaugural event. The festival extends the work that the Telethon Kids Institute undertakes at their Discovery Centre based at Perth Children’s Hospital, where children can engage with science and medical research in an interactive fun way. The success of the Discovery Centre encouraged the team to develop an outreach program to provide schools in rural areas with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning opportunities. With IGO's funding, the Telethon Kids Institute will bring researchers to participate in the festival and provide transportation for schools located outside of Broome to attend. We wish all students attending the event a fantastic time! #makingadifference #corporategiving #STEM

I'm a proud recipient of the Society for Science 2023-2024 STEM Research Grant (Sponsored by Regeneron) for $5,000! This grant allowed me to acquire actigraphy-motion-8 medical-grade sensor watches and a golf motion launch & simulator. This equipment will empower my student researchers to engage in genuine research on the impact of circadian rhythms and golf performance - considering factors such as times of the day (early in morning, mid- afternoon, late in day), hours of sleep by golfer, food consumption, age and time of year (fall versus spring to include light/time changes/and temperature) when driving at the range and putting. Through this initiative, my students will not only gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies but will also cultivate innovative STEM-thinking skills and foster a deeper understanding of STEM concepts through curiosity and exploration. Funding from the grant will also facilitate involvement in several STEM competitions, providing students with opportunities to engage in interactive and competitive learning STEM ecosystems. This opportunity prepares them for future STEM-related careers by illustrating how technology can be harnessed to address real-world challenges. https://lnkd.in/gbpspny4
We're excited to announce the awardees of the STEM Research Grant! These educators are advancing hands-on science education in middle and high school classrooms nationwide and we're proud to support their work.

At Mind Blown League, we believe that in order for children to reach their potential, learning should be as fun as playing a game - especially for STEM subjects. And that is why we are passionate about making STEM education an adventure. We turn complex scientific concepts into fun, engaging experiences for learners. One fascinating mindblowing fact we include in our games is the thorny devil lizard’s unique ability to drink water through its skin! 🦎🌵 This amazing lizard collects water from sand through capillary action, a process that has inspired groundbreaking innovations. Here’s how scientists are leveraging this natural phenomenon and how we integrate this exciting knowledge into our clubs: 🔬 Water Harvesting Technologies: Engineers have created materials that mimic the lizard’s skin, capable of collecting water from fog and dew. By sharing this fact and encouraging learners to dig deeper, learners see how bio-inspired technology can solve water scarcity issues. 💡 Desalination and Purification: By studying the thorny devil, scientists have improved water purification systems. Learners become aware of the link between science, innovation and nature. 🌍 Self-Cleaning Surfaces: Inspired by the lizard’s ability to channel water, researchers are designing surfaces that clean themselves. We use this example to show learners the direct impact of science on everyday life. 🚀 Biomedical Applications: The capillary action seen in thorny devils has influenced microfluidic devices in medicine. Through discussions in the clubs, learners learn how these principles can lead to advances in healthcare, making science both exciting and relevant. At Mind Blown League, we believe in the power of making science fun and relevant. By linking classroom content to real-world innovations, we inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. Join us in gaming for a greener future as we transform STEM education and nurture learners to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges! #STEMeducation #EdTech #ScienceIsFun #MindBlownLeague #Innovation #Education #WaterHarvesting #ClimateChange #FutureScientists #gamingforagreenerfuture #sciencefacts #worldlizardday

🎒📚 It's enrollment week for elementary school students in NRW! #Einschulung We're always excited to meet new classes of curious minds who have the potential to make a lasting difference in our world. But beyond that, we want to take this opportunity to explain the importance of introducing students to #STEM early in their educational journey. Not only does it provide a solid foundation for their future careers, but more importantly, STEM fosters skills like critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving, which are essential for informed decision-making and active participation in our society. This empowers children to understand and influence the world around them, even beyond careers as scientists or engineers. 😊🙌 Are you passionate about getting kids excited about STEM? Maybe you're a teacher or parent looking for ways to get started? Here are some tips: 🧪 Create an environment where children feel comfortable asking questions and exploring their interests by encouraging curiosity and supporting their pursuit of knowledge. 🧪 Introduce STEM concepts through fun, hands-on activities and experiments, such as science kits, coding games, and DIY projects. 🧪 Demonstrate how STEM is part of everyday life to make it more relatable and interesting, by discussing how technology works, observing nature, or explaining the science behind cooking. 🧪 Teach children about real-world applications of STEM, such as solving environmental problems or building sustainable cities, to help them see its value and potential #impact. 🧪 Connect children with role models and mentors, especially those who share their gender, ethnicity, or background. This provides a tangible example of what they can achieve and may inspire them to follow in their idol's footsteps. At Fraunhofer ILT, we want to encourage children's interest in STEM by participating in events such as Girl's Day, Tag mit der Maus, Schüleruni and many more. We're looking forward to welcoming even more children to our institute next year. If you're interested in working with us to show kids what it's like to work in #LaserTechnology, please get in touch! #EducationMatters #FutureInnovators #STEMforAll #FraunhoferILT

🌍 Happy World Lizard Day!🌍Previously, World Lizard Day didn't mean much to me, but since we started #gamingforagreenerfuture at Mind Blown League, I’ve become fascinated by the incredible links between nature and science. We use mind-blowing facts to encourage science curiosity and climate action. Take this astonishing fact about the thorny devil lizard: it lives in the desert and drinks water from sand... using its skin. How amazing is that? During our club sessions, learners are encouraged to dig deeper and discover fascinating information, such as how engineers have created materials that mimic the lizard’s skin, capable of collecting water from fog and dew. Imagine, lizards have inspired water harvesting technologies! Using our games, we inspire learning about these real-world applications. Learners see how bio-inspired technology can solve water scarcity issues and are motivated to come up with their own innovations. At Mind Blown League, we believe in the power of making science fun and relevant. By linking classroom content to real-world innovations, we inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬' 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬 Research has established that youth participation in science-focused afterschool clubs leads to a higher science identity—or seeing oneself as a science kind of person or as a scientist—and that peers exert influence over interests, even in academics, such as taking classes in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. To help build out the future STEM workforce, science-focused afterschool clubs, camps and other programs have been launched to encourage youth to pursue STEM interests, but those efforts can't reach every child. Based on findings from research on peer influence, it's possible that tangential benefits may exist within adolescent friendship networks. https://lnkd.in/dtHknbqZ
