2023 has been another meaningful stepping stone on Corteva Agriscience's ongoing sustainability journey. Our recently launched 2023 Sustainability Report provides an aerial view of the extent of the progress we have made over the past year towards our four core sustainability pillars. The results are great, reflecting the commitment of our global 23,000-strong team, who embed our values into their actions and decisions every day. Sustainability is our primary consideration, and through our collective efforts, as #OneCorteva, we have made considerable progress. Today, I want to highlight some of our core achievements for 2023: ❇️ Achieved our goal of 100% of newly-developed Corteva solutions in our pipeline, meeting our sustainability criteria. ❇️ Supported 1.7M hectares with biodiversity and outcomes aligned to regenerative agriculture since 2021. ❇️ Surpassed $2 billion in spending with diverse suppliers and small businesses. ❇️ Attained 25 percent of net crop protection revenue from new, sustainably-advantaged products. ❇️ Realized a 21 percent Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity reduction I am proud of the work we are doing across sustainable innovation, biodiversity, climate and inclusion, diversity and equity. Collectively, these pillars help ensure food security, climate resilience, and an energy transition while driving greater value for farmers. Our team is proud to present the new #Bayer Sustainability Report for 2023. Bayer | Crop Science is championing climate resilient practices across some key arenas. 🌽 Food Security: We've made significant strides in breeding advancements which have enabled us to feed a larger population while conserving arable land. With the global population on the rise, expected to reach >9 billion by 2050, it's crucial to ensure a robust food system that can provide nourishing food for all. Our downstream partnership approach aims to encourage farmers, food processors, and traders to collaborate for sustainable and resilient food systems. 🧑🌾 Smallholder Farmers: Our goal is to support 100 million smallholder farmers in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs) by 2030. We're achieving this through climate-resilient seeds, comprehensive trainings, and strategic partnerships. We believe in empowering farmers with the necessary resources to adopt sustainable agricultural practices. 🌾 Transforming Cropping Systems: Rice is one of the most important staple crops in the world. Transitioning from traditional rice cultivation to direct seeded rice has resulted in up to 40% reduction in water usage and up to 45% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. I encourage you all to read the report to understand better how we're collaborating to address some of the world's most critical challenges. Here's the link:

Interesting to see Bain & Company and the World Economic Forum report with some very important findings for healthy food, planet, climate, and people: 1) In the long run, regenerative agriculture delivers a variety of ecosystem services and leads to higher profits for farmers. 2) In the short run there are costs in the transition phase, and those costs are next to access to knowledge, the major blocker for farmers to implement regenerative practices 3) There is way too little investment in agriculture for the importance that it has, only 4% of all climate investment is in agriculture or other land use sectors, while 30% of GHG emissions come from food & agriculture

Fantastic to see LENs Company Ltd referenced in this Opinion Piece in Reuters from OP2B at the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development on how regenerative agriculture needs to become the norm rather than the exception if we are to both tackle and adapt to climate change. Importantly the article recognises the importance of collective action- with financiers, policymakers and businesses all with a role to play in transforming value chains. Within LENs we are working across multiple landscapes, building networks of collaborations- with farmers and land managers; with large companies and small businesses; with governments and local authorities; with water companies and utilities- who all recognise that to continue to flourish we need to transition to more regenerative systems, and invest in the ecosystem services that our economy, our communities and nature depend. The article offers a compelling case for regenerative agriculture as a solution to climate change and biodiversity loss, but it overlooks key challenges. While the call for investment is strong, the $3.6 billion cited is insufficient for the global scale of the task. Without equitable access to funds, smallholder farmers may be left behind, widening existing inequalities. The emphasis on collaboration across value chains is critical, but the article downplays the complexities of aligning diverse interests among businesses, policymakers, and farmers. Furthermore, relying on voluntary corporate initiatives risks greenwashing without regulatory enforcement to ensure accountability. The ambitious goal of scaling regenerative practices to 40% of cropland lacks a clear roadmap for overcoming systemic barriers, particularly in regions with weak financial infrastructure. To truly make regenerative agriculture the norm, robust regulatory frameworks and more strategic financial models are needed. Now is the time to move beyond vision and take decisive action to create a sustainable, resilient agricultural future. We measure pounds of milk produced by our herd. We measure our income per cow. We measure the return on our investments. But how do we measure our carbon footprint? Until recently, measuring a farm’s environmental impact has been a challenge. As dairy producers, we KNOW we are sustainable … we just haven’t had access to a system that helps us prove it. Your Farm – Your Footprint™ not only helps farmers prove they are sustainable but also helps them to further improve their environmental impact through: ✅ Sustainability score that gives credit for current practices. ✅ Customized road map of recommendations with practical steps for bettering that score. ✅ Peer-to-peer sharing of ideas and best practices. ✅ Cost share grants to help offset the expense of getting your environmental numbers and reports. This first-of-its-kind, farmer-led sustainability initiative empowers dairy producers to understand and easily measure the environmental footprint of their farms. It allows farmers to measure carbon and methane emissions so they can make informed decisions and shape their farms’ futures while retaining control of their data. Ready to shape your dairy’s future? Your Farm – Your Footprint not only enhances your sustainability efforts but also shapes the industry's sustainability discussion.
