It's been a journey of advocating for neurodiversity, not just in quiet rooms, but on global stages. ๐ From speaking at over 30 companies and events across more than 6 countries, my mission to champion neurodiversity at work took me around the world. Each destination brought new insights and the opportunity to influence change at an international scale. ๐ Getting our second commission as co-authors to write a book on neurodiversity for parents. ๐ค The launch of our groundbreaking AI technology has marked a significant milestone in my professional life, aiming to foster neuroinclusion in workplaces. ๐บ๐ณ Representing voices at the United Nations, I spoke not just for myself, but for a community that thrives on diversity and strength in difference. ๐จ๐ฉ๐ง๐ฆ Personal trials, including my father's brave recovery from a heart attack and a deep dive into my Celtic roots, have been sources of strength and reflection. ๐ Amidst a global climate fraught with challenges, I carry these experiences into 2024, ready to make the best impact I can. Every time I scroll through my LinkedIn feed, I'm filled with hope and excitement. Wanna know why? There are so many conversations about neurodiversity, personal stories being shared of challenges and overcoming them, and discussions about how we can create a more inclusive society. ๐คฉ As today is the last day in February, I grow even more excited because Neurodiversity Celebration Week is coming in March! There will be so much awesome content about neurodiversity. ๐ ๐ Hereโs why Iโm so excited: ๐ข Every post, article, and story shared contributes to a broader understanding of neurodiversity. ๐ช By sharing awareness, we're breaking down barriers and fostering empathy. Heck yeah! ๐ Thereโs incredible power in personal narratives. They not only humanise the discussion around neurodiversity but also provide comfort and inspiration to people with similar experiences. ๐ Bit by bit, we can change how businesses operate and how society perceives neurodiversity. Celebrating diversity is so important! As Neurodiversity Celebration Week is getting closer, I encourage you all to keep an eye out for content around neurodiversity from all the wonderful and important people sharing their experiences. ๐ค And let me know: is there anything you'd like me to write about for Neurodiversity Celebration Week? ๐ญ #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #NeurodiversityAtWork #CelebrateDiversity

Changing the way parents, individuals, and schools view Neurodivergence๐ฅ | ADHD Brain ๐ง | MSc in Behaviour Analysis ๐ฉ๐ผ๐ | Special interest in Autism, ADHD, & Dyslexia
๐ Did you know that this week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week? ๐ง โจ This week is dedicated to challenging stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding neurological differences. It aims to shift perceptions of neurodivergent individuals and offers schools, organisations, and communities the opportunity to recognise the unique talents and strengths inherent in neurodivergence, while also striving to create more supportive and inclusive environments. In light of this, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some aspects of my own neurodivergent brainโboth the things I love and the areas where I need additional support, because while we should always come from a point of strengths we cannot ignore the challenges of having a neurodivergent brain in a neurotypical world. So, I love the way my brain can perceive patterns and tackle complex problems in unconventional ways. It allows me to hyperfocus and accomplish substantial (interesting) tasks efficiently. Moreover, I love my ability to feel and empathise deeply, often sensing others' emotions as soon as I enter a room. On the flip side, I struggle with asking for help. Years of misdiagnosis have left me with internalised negative perceptions about myself and my brain. I also find emotional regulation challenging, occasionally neglecting self-care and prioritising my own energy needs. In moments of hyperfocus, I may overlook basic necessities like eating or staying hydrated. Additionally, tasks that I don't find interesting can be particularly challenging. I also struggle with rejection sensitivity dysphoria. I do have support tools in place to help with these and I'm continuously learning about myself and my brainโa journey that I find endlessly fascinating, while also lonely at times. This week I will be talking at schools to parents and teachers about how to create environments that are understanding, inclusive, and supportive. How are you marking Neurodiversity Week? ๐ #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #Inclusion #NeurodiversityAwareness

It's Neurodiversity Celebration week 18 - 24 March 2024! What is Neurodiversity Celebration Week I hear you ask? 'Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, and organisations with the opportunity to recognise the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual'. For more info including online workshops and conversations, check out their website - https://lnkd.in/eVwB3Ujg I have found that one of the key barriers to work, relationship development and belonging with respect to neurodiversity is the unconscious biases and negative attitudes of those who generally lack understanding or are ignorant to the needs and essential requirements for access. There is also a gap in the knowledge of some organisational leaders with respect to the opportunities they are failing to access due to this lack of knowledge. I am sure there are many other areas that need addressing but lets start somewhere. This week aims to provide a bridge towards understanding and thus towards attitudinal change which usually leads to behaviour change. There are many examples of how this works. Later this week, I will release Episode 17 of the Opening Closed Doors podcast where we here how Claire Cookson CEO of DFN Project SEARCH is changing the lives of many young people with neurodiversity through this excellent innovation. So 2 things, 1. Checkout the Neurodiversity week celebration website and log on to some of the webinars for awareness and engagement. 2. Listen out for the next episode of Opening Closed Doors Podcast with Claire Cookson and celebrate this week with clarity and a mind for change. #neurodiversitycelebrationweek #inclusion #belonging #attitudechange #accessibilityforall #disabilityawareness #disabilityemployment #disabilityeducation

Celebrating the World of Amazing & Unique Minds This Neurodiversity Celebration Week โจ I'm taking a moment to honor the beautiful variety of thinking that surrounds us. .....I've also been reflecting on my own journey as I, Nathan, live with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) ๐๐ง Now, I can only speak on my experiences, of course, but here's the main insights I'd like to encourage people to continue to be aware of: **Busting myths is key๐**: 1๏ธโฃ: Neurodiversity isn't a barrier. Instead, it signifies a beautiful tapestry of distinct thoughts & how people view everything 2๏ธโฃ: For those of us who are neurodiverse, experiencing the world comes with its own set of processing styles, and this variance in cognition is a wellspring of creativity and new perspectives For example - and this by no means is a poor attempt at trying to 'brag' - I've discovered that my obsession with processes and things 'being the same' has developed a keen eye for detail which helps in spotting subtle patterns that others might miss โ a valuable asset in many scenarios. Of course, the path includes hurdles, such as mastering social cues & interactions, but overcoming or working to utilise these for the better has been integral to my development ๐ Now is the time to advance open dialogue about integrating neurodiverse individuals more fully into all facets of life, particularly within education and the workforce. ๐ซถ Embracing and utilising diverse thought processes is not just about inclusivity; it's about harnessing these unique abilities for the advantages they can offer, and potentially making some truly amazing friends along the way ๐ฅ Cheers to shaping a future that cultivates potential and acknowledges the splendor of each person's mental makeup ๐. P.S: For those of you who are chasing a diagnosis or have been diagnosed recently, or late, like me.......it doesn't change who you are, so don't let it change who you can be in the future๐ #Neurodiversity #Inclusion #DiverseMinds
