How do entrepreneurial changemakers go from ideas to solutions for a targeted need for a specific group of people? How do they identify needs, think of solutions that solve problems, evaluate the impact of these solutions, and effectively communicate their innovations? These were the challenges our Upper School students addressed in the Entrepreneurial Changemaker elective. Here's something you might not know: A lot of undocumented college students in California can't access DACA, making it tough for them to find jobs or start something of their own. The good news is that in 2023, I kicked off a project that's all about turning obstacles into opportunities. I ran 2 incubator programs that helped 14 undocumented students turn their ideas into real, live businesses in just 8 weeks. And now, it's time for our third cohort! This summer, I'm partnering with San Bernardino Valley College’s Dreamers Resource Center to launch our third cohort. We're going all in to support 20 teams of undocumented students as they embark on an 8-week journey to launch their businesses. The finale? A pitch competition where three teams will win seed funding totaling $1,000. The goal? Raise $2,000 by May 1st, 2024, to bring their ideas to life.
