When Kellie Rizzo and Lisa V. told me they had a special project for me, I was immediately excited. Having the perspective of a Corporate Communications intern at NBCUniversal for this National Intern Day surprise video project was unique. Editing the clips as they were submitted from the various NBCU talent got me excited, especially Jabari Banks from one of my favorite shows "Bel-Air." It was a great learning experience, too, working across various departments (Corporate Communications, Internship Experience Team, etc.) and seeing the approval process for getting a video cleared for posting. Not only that, but it was enriching to work with a fast-approaching deadline and having a quick turnaround, providing real-world experience in the media and entertainment industry. Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving me this opportunity, NBCU, and I look forward to contributing more to the company throughout my internship and after! Some other projects I have been working on for this internship: - managing the social media for Atlas, NBCU's puppy with a purpose (@nbcu_pup on Instagram) - including his recent collaboration with NBC Olympics for their Houndfluencers campaign - coordinating the myPerks program where employees enter to win NBCU-related prizes, such as ParisPerks (30 days of giveaways, 30 days out from the Olympics) - communicating with winners, packing and shipping prizes, designing promotional materials - conducting research about various employee engagement and external communications processes with the use of data analytics and competitor analyses then presenting my findings to the team - clipping media articles to distribute to the team - and more!

At what point will we stop boxing in "career-connected learning" to only include internships, dual enrollment, and CTE programs? We must include in the conversation a way to transform learning even in the earliest grades by designing authentic project-learning experiences (APLEs). These APLEs invite our learners to tackle open-ended challenges connected to local communities and provide exposure to technical experts in the field. This exposure starts career thought patterns much earlier and presents a genuine opportunity to design a more far-reaching, career-connected learning pathway.

🌟 I just wrapped up my internship project for AVI Pty Ltd as supported by the fantastic Industry Exchange program. Teaming up with the incredible Jacob Jonas, I tackled my first professional software solution by creating a management system. 🏆 I'm now grateful to be recognized with the Technology award from Industry Exchange and Trailblazer – one of two awards among all Industry Exchange interns this summer. None of this would've been possible without the unwavering guidance of Kosma Egan and Nicholas Ettlinger, who kept our project moving forward when we hit roadblocks. 😱This project could overwhelm any undergrad software engineer, however I was met with tremendous support. The groundwork was laid with some initial elicitation, and brilliant engineers at my side to guide me through the process. 🔍 In the end, we presented business solutions to AVI on three fronts: Legacy Code Transformation: Wrestling with legacy code to bring it into the modern development space for incremental improvements. Outlook Add-On: Developed a handy add-on to manage tasks seamlessly from the management systems database. MVP for the Future: Crafted a robust MVP for the upcoming version of their management system. 🎓 Here are some key lessons I'm taking forward: Time Matters: Never underestimate the time it takes to complete tasks. Aesthetics Matter: End users care more than you think about how an application looks. JavaScript, the Necessary Evil: Sometimes challenging, always essential. Early Feedback is Gold: Ask for feedback, even when you're not entirely proud of your work (yet). Quality of Life Improvements: Don't underestimate the value of enhancing user experience, even just a little. 🧑💼 I'm excited as well to announce I was invited to continue this project at AVI during my uni semester, so I don't need to say goodbye to my creation quite yet.
