Babies are loud sleepers aren't they?? 😉 Especially in their early months. I remember my babies making funny faces, twitching, eyes fluttering. They'd even let out a whimper every now and then. My little girl was an especially active sleeper when she was a baby. Here's why. Up until about three months of age, babies' sleep is divided into two main phases - active sleep and quiet sleep, with each taking up about half of their sleep time. During active sleep, you'll notice their eyes darting, sporadic breathing, body twitching or jerking. You may even see a little smile. 🙂 Around the three-month mark, babies start to spend more time in deep sleep, reserving the active phases for later in the night. So, why is all of this important to know? 🤔 Well, it's because those movements and noises your baby makes during sleep are perfectly normal. It's all part of their natural sleep cycle. But here's the catch- if you rush in to soothe them at every little sound, you might actually be disrupting their sleep. 💡 So, instead of responding to every whimper, try giving your baby a bit of space to regulate themselves. It not only helps them develop healthy sleep habits but also gives you a chance to better understand their needs. 😊 So, the next time your little one is a little active while their sleeping or lets out a couple cries in the middle of the night, remember - it's all part of the process. ❤️ By letting them navigate their sleep cycles naturally, you'll both enjoy more restful nights. Trust me, it's worth it! 😴 If you are looking for more newborn sleep tips and haven't already snagged a copy of my free Top 3 Sleep Tips - Newborn to 1 year, the link to request a copy will be in the comments below. ✨ #healthysleephabits #newbornsleep #sleepcycles

A sleep regression refers to a period when a baby who has been sleeping well suddenly starts waking up more frequently or has trouble falling asleep. Sleep regressions most likely happen within the first year of life, and are linked to developmental milestones, teething, or changes in routines. 💤 Signs of a Sleep Regression: Frequent night wakings where your baby needs reassurance or a feeding. Shorter and infrequent naps during the day. Difficulty falling asleep. Increased fussiness during wake periods. A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) can assist you during these challenging sleep regressions. They can help you establish new bedtime routines, create a calming sleep environment, or even take over newborn care tasks while you catch up on much needed rest. It is never too early (or too late for that matter) to support your child in achieving healthy sleep. Often parents who struggled with their first child's sleep, reach out when they are due their second baby, to learn the fundamentals of setting up their newborn for healthy sleep rhythms and associations. "Emma has really helped me get to grips with newborn sleep and what I can do to set the foundations for my baby to get the sleep they need moving forward. Even though this is my second child (and Emma helped me with my first born) it has still been really valuable in reminding me what the fundamentals are when supporting your little one's sleep journey! This is really valuable for anyone who wants to gently help their baby establish a good sleep routine from day one. Its not about creating a rigid unrealistic schedule but about supporting your baby with their sleep and finding a routine that works for the both of you". 🌙 This is how we got back 276 hours of sleep in 3 months: Wait… sorry… baby brain. This is how we LOST about 3 hours of sleep a night in 3 months. We had a baby. Nothing stressed us out more than sleep. We were desperate. By the time we found the solution, our baby had begun sleeping well. The solution is that there is none. Every baby is different and losing sleep is a part of raising them. Here’s a few tips anyway! Don’t stress too much over baby sleep cycles: 👶 Natural Variability - Newborns are built to tear sleep from parents. - Each one is a screaming puzzle box of sleep theft. 🕒 Frequent Awakenings - It's normal for newborns to scream you awake. - These awakenings are a sign that you’re no longer asleep. 💤 Quality Over Quantity - Create a calm sleeping environment for them to shatter. - Catch a power nap at work or at the gym. 🛌 Sleep Cues Are Key - Look for signs of sleepiness; AKA false flags to give you hope. - Yawning and rubbing eyes are a classic double bluff. 🔄 It Gets Better: - After a while, you just accept that you’re a zombie now. - “Stress less” is like telling a drowning person to swim. 📱 Tech To The Rescue: - Baby Records can track all the sleep you’re losing! - Let Sofia, our AI chatbot, offer personalized sleep tips. Remember, every baby is unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Understand, adapt, and be kind to yourself and your partner. Your baby will find his or her natural rhythm. Here’s to peaceful nights and joyful days ahead! Good luck, wonderful parents. Check out our page to find our website and download links. #Parenting #HealthTech #FamilyFirst

I know quite a few of you are up right now --scrolling social media, with grainy eyes and a tired body, nursing or patting, feeding, bouncing, and shushing. Feeling like sweet sleep will never come. Imagine the feeling of a good stretch of sleep. Your body aches for sleep and your baby aches for your arms around them and support to settle. Meeting your need for sleep can feel at such odds with meeting your baby. Sometimes the interruptions are short (duration) and not lengthy (over days instead of weeks). At other times these disruptions can feel like they will never end! What is a parent to do? We often can't FIX sleep and we can never MAKE babies sleep but we can: 🦋 Focus on looking for the patterns that are emerging 🦋 Offer sleep early enough that your baby isn't overtired, and quit early too --don't work too hard, but move onto quiet play outside the room 🦋 Find a way to take care of yourself, especially if you are reaching a crisis mode with sleep 🦋 Look for the support that you may have dismissed when you weren't feeling this tired. It may be time to pull in that help 🦋 Trim the extras. What can you let go of for the time being to focus on the immediate priorities? 🦋 Accept the situation (which is not the same as giving up on sleep. It just means knowing what you have direct power over, and what you don't. Focus on what you CAN change!). 🦋 Sleep when the baby sleeps. (Just kidding. If that works, great, but it's not a panacea, and sometimes it's just a crappy piece of advice). 🦋 and last, know I see you --I was there once too, which is why I'm 'here' now. Sending sweet sleep vibes to you tonight

As a passionate professional Norland Nanny and sleep consultant. I'm dedicated to providing exceptional solutions for your children's sleep.
Understanding Circadian Rhythms for Baby and Children’s Sleep: Natural Body Clock: Babies, like adults, have a natural internal clock known as circadian rhythms. These rhythms help regulate their sleep-wake cycle, making them feel sleepy at certain times and more alert at others. Light and Darkness: Circadian rhythms are influenced by light and darkness. Exposure to natural daylight during the day helps babies establish their internal clock, promoting wakefulness. Conversely, dimming lights in the evening signals to their body that it's time to wind down and prepare for sleep. Consistent Bedtime Routine: Establishing a consistent bedtime routine can help reinforce a baby's circadian cues. Activities such as bathing, reading, and gentle play in the hour leading up to bedtime can signal to their body that sleep is approaching, making it easier for them to settle down. Circadian Disruptions: Changes to a baby's routine, such as travel or daylight-saving time, can disrupt their circadian rhythms and affect their sleep patterns. Patience and Adjustment: It's important to understand that it may take time for baby's circadian rhythms to become fully established, especially in the early months. #SleepNanny #SleepConsultant #SleepCoach #NorlandNanny #SleepTips #SleepHelp #PaediatricSleep #ChildSleep #HealthySleepHabits #SleepTraining #BedtimeRoutine #SleepSolutions #BabySleep #ToddlerSleep #ParentingTips #SleepScience #SleepWell #SleepSupport #SleepHealth #GoodNightSleep #SleepDeprivation #SleepBetter #RestfulSleep #SleepAwareness
