First Hyatt-branded hotel to open in Alula: Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement with The Royal Commission for AlUla for the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Alula. “We look forward to adding Hyatt Place AlUla to our growing portfolio of properties in the region,” said Ludwig Bouldoukian, Regional Vice President, Development, Middle East and Africa, Hyatt. “This significant project underscores our commitment to expanding our brand presence in key leisure and business markets. Credit to damarre September 4, 2024 PROGRESS WATCH: Colliers cites Cagayan de Oro's rising hotel industry https://lnkd.in/ggBVJcHz Colliers, a leading professional services and investment management company, has recognized the presence of both current and upcoming homegrown and international hotel brands in Cagayan de Oro City, including Radisson Blu Hotel, Sheraton, Dusit Thani, and the recently opened Hamersons Hotel. One of the presentation slides featured a map titled “Invasion of the Giants,” highlighting the upcoming homegrown and international hotel brands in the country. This surge is attributed to increased optimism about rising international arrivals and planned modernization of international airports. The map included logos of four hotel brands—Radisson Blu Hotel, Sheraton, Dusit Thani, and Hamersons Hotel—marked for Cagayan de Oro. However, it overlooked the confirmed entry of the Citadines brand by Ascott into the city.

Congratulations to the Grand Hyatt Singapore, who re-opened (partially), today, after almost 2 years hiatus, following a multi million USD renovation. Unlike the recent opening of the Peninsula in London, the Luxury market in Singapore is less diverse and significant, resulting in a less pronounced impact to the hotels currently in operation in Singapore (see London Peninsula case study https://lnkd.in/dJUxgjAy) The phased re-opening of the Grand Hyatt also reduces the immediate impact, however, given the size, Grand Hyatt brand credibility, and prime location, one may expect the Grand Hyatt will impact the Orchard Road Hotel RGI and RevPAR significantly, once they re-launched all their inventory. Like in most studies we published thus far, also in Singapore one can observe a very diverse mix of hotels and brands directly competing among each other - see table below. Note Study included all hotels in Orchard road area and leading Singapore Luxury Hotel brands.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Regis Bay Vietnam Investment Joint-Stock Company for the Crowne Plaza Danang City Centre hotel. The 283-key resort, set to open later this year, will help address the city's growing demand for meetings and events while also offering guests various rooms and suites with views of the Danang landscape or Han River. Behold the largest Mercure hotel in the world with nearly 1,000 rooms which opens in Singapore today. It's a towering achievement for Worldwide Hotels Group, which started with one budget Hotel 81 in 1995 in Singapore's red-light district, Geylang. Look where it is now – in the city-center with a gleaming ‘Mercure Icon’. It bought the land plot in late 2018/early 2019 for S$562 million. So congrats Carolyn Choo (and also Accor’s Garth Simmons and Andrew Langdon). It is guaranteed to be a serious competitor to other hotels, given the attractive location although I understand the largest room size is 22sqm. But hey I've stayed in an 18sqm room at YOTEL Singapore, which totally convinced me it's not what room size you have, but the chops to make the room feel larger than it is. Hopefully rates at this newcomer are 'smaller' too as I keep getting remarks that Singapore is getting to be more expensive (not just the hotel rates). The city definitely needs more midscale hotels such as this, but even more critical are hotels that are a rung or a few rungs below the Mercure or Ibis brands, but done and operated in smart ways. A kind of irony is that Worldwide started as a low budget chain and is perhaps one player that can reinvent the category with all the insights the company has acquired by now. #midscalehotels #Singaporehotels
