The Environmental Baseline Report is key to the completion of an Environmental Impact Report which allows for permissions to construct a mine. Balancing the need to prevent excessive surface sealing and uncontrolled water intrusion into the ground, especially in areas with shallow underground mining, requires innovative solutions. That's where blue-green infrastructure & #NBS comes into play. The development strategy for #rainwater #management in Miasto Jaworzno will not be created in isolation - the collaborative approach is ensured thanks to involvement of the municipality departments, Wodociągi Jaworzno sp. z o.o. and other relevant stakeholders. On 12th March, our Regional Implementation Group convened for the first meeting. The focus of the discussion centered around identifying the key success factors for #rainwater #solutions. Two critical factors emerged: the need for comprehensive cooperation among all levels of government responsible for blue-green infrastructure, and the importance of strategic management and spatial planning that incorporates a substantial share of biologically active areas within the city. In next months MAURICE Project teams from Główny Instytut Górnictwa - Państwowy Instytut Badawczy & Miasto Jaworzno will work on these aspects - stay tuned for updates on our progress as we work towards a more sustainable and water-resilient community, as #cooperationiscentral

Ranchers in West #Texas have reported abandoned oil wells spewing wastewater, with a new study pointing to fracking as the culprit. Southern Methodist University's research reveals that fracking wastewater, injected underground for disposal, traveled 12 miles through faults before surfacing through a plugged oil well in 2022. This study is the first to establish a direct connection between wastewater injection and blowouts in the Permian Basin, the leading oil-producing region in the U.S. The findings raise concerns about potential groundwater contamination and emphasize the need for oil producers to seek alternative solutions for the millions of gallons of toxic wastewater generated daily in the Permian Basin. #Environmentalnews #SMU #Wastewater #Environment https://lnkd.in/ggNcWPCt
