Honoured to join a group of inspiring change-makers and industry leaders at the inaugural International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) Healthy Building Policy Summit in Washington, D.C. We gathered to explore the future of building health and air quality, with a shared goal: making real, actionable change. As part of the Change Makers roundtable, we took a uniquely personal and inclusive framework to address the critical role of our built environment on the physical, mental, and spiritual health of individuals, communities, and cities. We brought a fresh perspective on how to accelerate the shift toward healthier, more resilient spaces through thoughtful policy and design. Fully conscious that there’s a true urgency to move from ideas to impactful actions, I look forward to seeing how these insights will shape the built environment in meaningful ways. A warm thank you to everyone for creating an engaging platform and fostering meaningful discussions: International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), Georgetown University, DELOS, Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy, ARCHETYPE Investments, Lutron Electronics. WSCA FREE WEBINAR SERIES Webinar 1 – ENGAGING LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILLORS AND SENIOR EXECUTIVES Wednesday 27 March 2024, 1–2pm (AEDT) Shelley Shepherd (Urbaqua) will discuss our project to improve local governments’ understanding of and role in promoting application of water sensitive cities principles and practices. While Perth has many local government champions delivering WSC actions, these people are often in engineering, sustainability and landscape professions. We need to build understanding of others, particularly senior local government decision makers (councillors and senior executives). These decision makers should see WSC solutions as fundamental to the health and wellbeing of the community and the protection of the environment, rather than being a 'nice to have', 'add on' or 'unconventional' solution. Shelley will discuss the engagement program piloted with the City of Canning in 2023 and plans to deliver engagement activities around Perth in 2024. You can register for this free webinar here: https://lnkd.in/gTwF2eKs #watersensitivecities

Back in 2008, Milwaukee envisioned a bold future – becoming a global leader in water innovation. This ambitious goal wasn't a top-down decree, but a spark ignited by visionary civic leaders. Recognizing the need for cutting-edge R&D, they partnered with Purdue University, a powerhouse in research. This collaboration proved extraordinary. The Water Council, a public-private partnership led by industry veterans like Paul Jones (A.O. Smith) and Rich Meeusen (Badger Meter), quickly transcended its local roots. Within three years, it had established itself as a global water hub. The Water Council's success is an example of Strategic Doing in action: 💡 Collaboration is Key: Innovation thrives on diverse perspectives. The Council's success hinged on the powerful combination of public sector vision, academic expertise, and industry know-how. 💡 Targeted Investment Matters: The Council's growth wasn't fueled by empty promises. They strategically invested in creating an ecosystem that nurtured innovation and attracted top talent. 💡 Think Global, Start Local: The Water Council's story reminds us that global impact can stem from local vision. By addressing a crucial need within their community, they ended up shaping a global conversation. Want to learn how to cultivate a thriving innovation ecosystem within your organization? Our upcoming Practitioners Training: Developing Innovation Ecosystems with Strategic Doing can equip you with the tools and framework to make it happen. Interested? CWIS 🌍 is about finding the right solutions that fit the context perfectly, and being unbiased with any type and scale of interventions, including sewer and non-sewer approaches. Can we view sanitation as a more holistic planning framework, providing ample space for contextual solutions and serving as cumulative efforts toward the aspirations of creating livable cities? So, how do we make sure CWIS planning is for everyone? We're talking about addressing safe containment, collection, transportation, and treatment, without leaving anyone out. And by everyone, we mean making it work for folks no matter their budget 💰 or how the climate risk 🌧️ is evolving. Who's missing out, and how do we ensure they get the same level of service as everyone else? And let's not forget about the heaps of used water messing up our rivers and canals 🚱 with constantly leaking containment. What's the plan there? Join us for a lively discussion about how spatial thinking can shape CWIS planning. We'll dive into what's been learned across South East Asia 🌏 and are keen to discuss this further with your experience. Plus, you'll hear about our upcoming hands-on training on the CWIS spatial planning approach tool. 🗓️ 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐞𝐛'𝟐𝟒 𝟏.𝟑𝟎 𝐏𝐌 𝐈𝐒𝐓 Here is the registration link -https://lnkd.in/geTQCSt4 AIT Global Water & Sanitation Center Dasra Shelter Associates NGO Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Empowering small to medium-sized business owners to transform operations, boost profitability, and achieve sustainable growth.
Just wrapped up an insightful few hours as a visitor to the NZ Water Conference at Claudelands, Hamilton! 🌊💧 It was great to explore the latest technology supporting our local water industry. The innovations on display are promising for the future of water management in New Zealand. But the real highlight? Catching up with old friends and industry colleagues. Bruce Franks, Anak Lumb, Garth Mickell, Shameel Rauf, Kevin Head, Karl Renner, Marcel de Leur, Mike Mason, Matt McLay Bruce Kain - sorry I missed catching up with you but not sure your liver could handle another 'catch up'. Martin Mould (aka Mr Jones) - sorry I missed you, but Bruce F let you go too early! It's both comforting and eye-opening to see that we're all facing similar challenges, especially in: • People: Finding and retaining top talent • Process: Streamlining operations for efficiency • Data: Harnessing the power of information for better decision-making • Procrastination: Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow These pillars are crucial, yet often the most challenging to get right. Are you grappling with any of these issues in your water-related projects? Whether it's about people, process improvements, or data management, I'd love to lend a hand. Let's connect and explore how we can drive positive change in our industry together. Drop me a message, and let's chat about your current challenges and potential solutions. #NZWaterConference #WaterIndustry #SMEChallenges #Collaboration #WaterManagement #Projectmanagement
