Without markets and the private sector, countries and local communities will be unable to effectively adapt to #ClimateChange 💰 The most crucial private sector actors for locally led, #CommunityBasedAdaptation are small, local entities like MSMEs, smallholder farmers, and informal entrepreneurs, as they directly impact the livelihoods of those most affected by climate change. But their efforts primarily focus on risk absorption rather than transforming livelihoods for future resilience. So how can we improve private sector engagement in a way that works for the most vulnerable? This question was central to discussions at this year’s #CBA18, where participants explored strategies for engaging the private sector in meeting the public objectives of supporting inclusive, locally led adaptation 🗣 Read more about the conclusions of these discussions in this new Practical Action blog by Chris Henderson, Sam Greene, Susan Nanduddu and Sam Barrett 👇 https://lnkd.in/eBFqEYkz

As someone whose business is in emergency management, I can tell you that climate change and the displacement of families disproportionately affect marginalized communities. It also leads to resource scarcity, with industries like agriculture being severely disrupted. We must take this issue more seriously as global citizens and work together to address the growing impacts. Thank you Whitney Alese and the New PA Education project for this video I’m reposting from IG to here on LinkedIn Source: https://lnkd.in/eBuTazra #ClimateChangeImpact, #EmergencyManagement, #MarginalizedCommunities, #DisplacementCrisis, #ResourceScarcity, #GlobalCitizenship, #ClimateJustice, #SustainableFuture, #AgricultureDisruption, #EnvironmentalAction, #EcoResponsibility, #ClimateAwareness, #CommunitiesInCrisis, #ClimateResilience, #GlobalWarmingCrisis

We know that our children will experience the severe and escalating impacts of climate change, which is why investing in nature-based solutions is more important than ever. Recently, UNICEF’s Deputy Executive Director of Partnerships, Kitty van der Heijden told the World Economic Forum that: 🚸 Our children are among the most vulnerable, facing serious health risks due to a changing climate. 🌪️Increasing natural disasters threaten food security and access to clean air. 🌲By investing in nature, we can foster resilience and ensure a safer future for generations to come. Let’s prioritize sustainable practices for the well-being of our children by investing in nature-based solutions. #InvestInNature #NatureBasedSolutions #TreePlanting #SmartForests

Despite supplying a third of the world’s food, family farmers receive just 0.3% of international climate finance. The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), a global partnership dedicated to promoting financial inclusion for low-income populations, is urging public and private financiers to direct a portion of their climate funding to local communities affected by climate https://ow.ly/25sv50TIbPi nce-for-local-communities-108369 more: https://ow.ly/77RO50TIbPj #GA4Communities #SustainableDevelopment

The climate crisis, exacerbated by human activities over the years, has brought our planet to the brink of disaster. Despite the looming threats, financial institutions like Barclays, HSBC, and Citibank continue to invest billions in fossil fuels and harmful industrial agriculture, worsening the climate crisis and inflicting devastating pollution on local communities. ActionAid urges these institutions to STOP perpetuating this danger and #FixTheFinance by redirecting funds to sustainable agro-ecology practices. #FixTheFinance #ClimateJustice #ClimateFinance

The knowledge that deforestation could reduce south-east Asia’s GDP by 35% is of little concern to a family that needs to sell firewood to stave off famine and poverty. Who’s to tell them they shouldn’t do that if there’s no other option? Climate action starts with empowering local communities. This is one of the cornerstones of our UBS Climate Collective’s approach to building coastal resilience and protecting mangrove ecosystems in Southeast Asia. Best overview of GGRF that I have seen. I am speaking at the Dream.org EPA Region 4 Climate Convening on Tuesday 4/16. There is much work to do, and now we have some solid tools to do it. These are huge first steps, and we should absolutely celebrate them, but they are first steps. More is needed, and we must continue to urge our federal and state governments to take those next steps into 2025 and beyond. https://lnkd.in/dbDx-B-w

Water and Climate Leader @ Green Climate Fund | Strategic Investment Partnerships and Co-Investments| Professor| EW4ALL| Board Member| Chair- CODATA TG
It was a pleasure to meet Professor Celeste Saulo, WMO Secretary-General and hear her vision for strengthening global hydro-meteorological services and early warning systems. Green Climate Fund is committed to supporting the EW4All initiative already and upscaling #CREWS successes. We discussed opportunities for the private sector to get involved and ensure long-term sustainability by integrating innovation and financial stability into early warning systems. #GCF provides catalytic funding to help countries build resilience, ensure sustainability, and maximize societal impacts. As climate risks grow more complex, early warning systems play a pivotal role in understanding and managing escalating threats. There is tremendous potential to apply new technologies, yet operational barriers remain. I am inspired by Prof Celeste's vision and leadership on this issue. The climate and inequality crises must be addressed together so no one is left behind. It was a productive discussion on strengthening early warnings and building resilience for those most at risk. #EW4All, #disasterriskreduction, #climatechangeadaptation

Climate change disproportionately impacts marginalized and low-income communities, exacerbating existing inequalities. Those without access to modern resources and infrastructure face severe economic and health challenges, from disrupted agriculture and fisheries to inadequate shelter against extreme weather. As climate-related disasters intensify, the vulnerability of these communities becomes increasingly apparent, highlighting the urgent need for equitable solutions. Governments and organizations must prioritize social justice, invest in resilient infrastructure, and provide targeted support to mitigate these disparities and protect the most affected populations. Following the recent SIDS4 Conference, it’s clear that we cannot discuss food nutrition and security without addressing the urgent issue of climate change. The Caribbean has witnessed firsthand how shifts in weather and climate can lead to devastating effects, sometimes causing irreversible damage or reversing economic progress by a decade. That’s why CPDC will persist in advocating for increased Debt Relief for CARICOM member states. With the region's significant debt burden, financing climate adaptation and mitigation efforts has become even more challenging. Climate finance is crucial for the sustainability and resilience of our states.
