"More than 90,000 immigrants came into Massachusetts last year. Those folks represent the future of our commonwealth … Our whole economy benefits from them,” IINE President and CEO Jeff Thielman told Lowell Sun, regarding President Donald Trump’s unconstitutional executive order intending to end birthright citizenship, as it would put countless at risk of losing their status and benefits as American citizens, and possibly deportation. This executive order does not align with the United States' long-established values of equality and freedom. "New York’s leaders face a clear choice: stand by as lives are torn apart or take bold action. This moment demands significant investments in legal services to protect families, strengthen communities, bolster the economy and uphold our values.” —Shayna Kessler, director of the Vera Institute of Justice’s Advancing Universal Representation Initiative As the incoming Trump administration prepares a sweeping deportation agenda, today we joined a broad group of #NewYork State elected officials, immigrant advocates, and impacted community members to call for bold state-level action as part of the Campaign for Access, Representation, and Equity (CARE) for Immigrant Families coalition. We are calling for a $165 million investment in the Office for New Americans and the Education Department to fund sustainable immigration legal services and infrastructure to help New Yorkers facing deportation who cannot afford an attorney. New York must also pass the Access to Representation Act and the BUILD Act, legislation that will help ensure immigrants targeted by cruel federal policies have critical legal help to protect their rights. Over 172,000 people are unrepresented in New York immigration courts. The CARE for Immigrant Families Coalition is fighting for long term solutions that will ensure that the state is prepared to safeguard the rights of our immigrant communities to meet the urgent needs of this moment and the years to come. https://lnkd.in/e-QjuPBT

“Ending birthright citizenship” was one of the topics discussed by President-elect Donald Trump during his exclusive interview with Kristen Welker, moderator of NBC News’ Meet the Press, on December 8, 2024. He stated that he intends to implement this policy on “day one” if re-elected. Trump criticized the current law as “ridiculous,” allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain citizenship for their children born on U.S. soil . In addition to this, he addressed other immigration issues, including mass deportation, DACA, and the separation of families. President-elect Trump’s promised deportation agenda is not a matter of if, but when. Immigrants—including many #NewYork communities—will be among the first to feel the devastating impact. To uphold New York’s values, urgent action is needed. The state must invest in immigration legal services and affirm its commitment to dignity and opportunity by passing the #NY4All Act and the #AccessToRepresentation Act. A Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas has permanently struck down Biden’s administration program aimed at providing a pathway to U.S. citizenship for certain undocumented immigrants married to American citizens. The program, known as “parole in place,” allowed certain undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens to stay in the country, work legally, and pursue citizenship without fear of deportation. Judge J. Campbell Barker concluded that the Biden administration overstepped its authority, asserting that the program “stretches legal interpretation past its breaking point.” The initiative, known as “Keeping Families Together,” now leaves immigrant families facing additional uncertainty as many prepare for Trump’s return to the White House. Following Trump’s election win, the president-elect reaffirmed his plan for a rigorous crackdown on undocumented individuals, promising “mass deportation” as part of his campaign platform. Independence Day celebrates the United States’ declared independence from Great Britain in 1776. This important day continues to hold meaning for natural-born #USCitizens, #USImmigrants, and #USNaturalizedcitizens alike. #IndependenceDay serves as a reminder of the freedoms and opportunities that the U.S. provides for immigrants, including the right to vote, freedom of speech, and equal protection under the law. For new immigrants and naturalized citizens, the 4th of July symbolizes the beginning of their lives as Americans. It signifies that they have been welcomed into a country built on principles of liberty and justice for all, regardless of national origin, and that the U.S. is, has, and always will be a #NationOfImmigrants. ERM Immigration Law, PLLC, is proud to have helped dozens of people naturalize this year and hundreds over the past 10 years in time to celebrate the 4th of July as a U.S. citizen and exercise their right to #vote in US elections. As Americans, we often take for granted the freedoms we have and the democracy that we must cherish, protect, and improve so that we may continue to be the beacon of freedom, individuality, and democracy for the world to aspire to; so that we can protect ourselves and others. Naturalized citizens have a special perspective that forever reminds us as #immigrationattorneys and #citizens to hold dear our privileges and strive to always improve this #GreatNation. Today, @ERMImmigration we congratulate all the #naturalizedcitizens; we not only celebrate U.S. independence, but we also celebrate you. #immigrationattorney #freedom #immigration #citizenship #equality #usa #citizenship #naturalization

"They’re coming into our country — from Africa, from Asia, all over the world." "'I’ll use the word animal because that’s what they are.'" — Donald Trump, former U.S. President (R) Dear Fellow Americans: I, today, express sincere considerations for the Harris-Walz campaign. Indeed, North America is a place many, if not a few, of us call home. It, too, is the land of the brave. And it is a home for people with "free will" and moral decency. Our "law and order" twenty first century civil society applies to all persons and entities under the rule of law as a matter of principle. Even local, state, federal, and international government officials, they are obliged to uphold a standard, despite some immunities depending on specific duties. Based on reports by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), "If given a second term, Donald Trump promises to deci-mate American communities by targeting immigrants who are already contributing members of society and blocking new immigrants from coming lawfully to the United States. Trump has made clear that he will double down on what he did during his presidency — without regard for the law, decency, or common sense." A former Trump senior official on record drafted "Project 2025." This Project now seeks to overthrow many federal agencies and undermine more than 175 immigration policies. First, there will be mass deportation. Second, there will be an attack on birthright citizenship, which will deny all public schooling for immigrants by separating children from their families. Third, the asylum protections will be annulled altogether. Thus, a threat of this second Trump administration is a crime against North American humanity. The point is: the above-referenced two quotes on immigration in the United States of America are by Mr. Trump at a New Hampshire rally in 2023 and at a Michigan event in 2024. All persons, as a result of this, are afforded life, liberty, and their pursuits of happiness under God, indivisible with justice for all. Let us support the Harris-Walz campaign for "A Better America" for our people, especially, our children — today and tomorrow. I, again, thank you for your attention to these human rights matters. L. Jacqueline Gillard (pronounced Jhill-r) | Humanitarian

Inventing America's First Immigration Crisis: Political Nativism in the Antebellum West (Catholic Practice in North America) - PDF: https://lnkd.in/gqjS9UQD Why have Americans expressed concern about immigration at some times but not at others? In pursuit of an answer, this book examines America’s first nativist movement, which responded to the rapid influx of 4.2 million immigrants between 1840 and 1860 and culminated in the dramatic rise of the National American Party. As previous studies have focused on the coasts, historians have not yet completely explained why westerners joined the ranks of the National American, or “Know Nothing,” Party or why the nation’s bloodiest anti-immigrant riots erupted in western cities―namely Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, and St. Louis. In focusing on the antebellum West, Inventing America’s First Immigration Crisis illuminates the cultural, economic, and political issues that originally motivated American nativism and explains how it ultimately shaped the political relationship between church and state. In six detailed chapters, Ritter explains how unprecedented immigration from Europe and rapid westward expansion re-ignited fears of Catholicism as a corrosive force. He presents new research on the inner sanctums of the secretive Order of Know-Nothings and provides original data on immigration, crime, and poverty in the urban West. Ritter argues that the country’s first bout of political nativism actually renewed Americans’ commitment to church–state separation. Native-born Americans compelled Catholics and immigrants, who might have otherwise shared an affinity for monarchism, to accept American-style democracy. Catholics and immigrants forced Americans to adopt a more inclusive definition of religious freedom. This study offers valuable insight into the history of nativism in U.S. politics and sheds light on present-day concerns about immigration, particularly the role of anti-Islamic appeals in recent elections.

BREAKING NEWS! President Biden is considering a new parole program for some undocumented immigrants in the United States. The program is not yet in place. According to the President “To protect the spouses of Americans, the administration is expected to use a process called “PAROLE-IN-PLACE.” It not only offers deportation protections and work permits to qualifying immigrants but also removes a legal obstacle that prevents them from getting on a path to a green card, and eventually, U.S. citizenship.” This parole program is for spouses of U.S. citizens who entered the U.S. unlawfully. Once the program is implemented, they can continue to stay in the U.S. and obtain their green cards right here in the U.S. without leaving, despite their unlawful entry into the United States. Stay tuned for more updated information on this potential new program; we will keep you posted. If you need help with any type of US immigration case, please reach out to us. We are happy to help. ☎️☎️+1 (802) 780 0564☎️☎️ How to 🅱️ook a consult: Details in the comment section 🌍: Listed in the comment section 📨: Listed in the comment section Post by Justine From the AK Poku Law Team #akpokulaw #akpoku #PresidentBiden #parole #newparoleprogram #spouses #unlawfulentry #paroleinplace #PIP #usimmigrationlawyer #immigrantvisa #citizenship #usvisa #usa #greencard #americandream #Ghana #uscis #immigrantslawyer #immigrationlaw #immigration #usimmigration #DMVimmigrationlawyers #Virginiaimmigrationlawyers #Marylandimmigrationlawyers #bestimmigrationlawyer #immigrationlawyers
