Labeling children as resilient can undermine their need for support by ignoring the impact of their experiences. This label often shifts the focus away from the trauma they face, reducing the urgency for adult intervention and mental health care. It implies that children can cope without assistance, which can lead to their needs being neglected or dismissed. Such labeling absolves adults—parents, caregivers, and professionals—from taking responsibility to ensure that children receive the emotional support and therapeutic interventions they need to truly heal and thrive. Let’s do better for our kids!

Let’s get real. As a trauma therapist in the child welfare system I would hear “kids are resilient” to make the case that a child would be “fine” without treatment for the trauma they endured. If there weren’t extreme behaviors in the home the children didn’t receive therapy. Yes, therapy is expensive. Yes, not everyone has access to it. Yes, it’s hard to find good trauma therapy, and yes kids can seem incredibly resilient. …And, I can almost guarantee that at some point in the future, whether it be during puberty, young adulthood, or when that child becomes a parent, all that trauma is going to rise up or leak out onto their life. Sometimes trauma waits until we feel able to protect ourselves to show its face. Sometimes it’s dormant until the threat subsides, which can take decades. Don’t assume children are resilient because they’ve been through some sh*t and look ok right now. It is more effective to address trauma during early childhood when their brains are more malleable than it is to wait until their brains are more hardwired in the future. It’s never too soon to address the impact of toxic stress and adversity on children. And even if research shows that some people are more resilient than others, why not give them the support for what they’ve been through? We need to stop believing the resiliency myth. #childwelfare #childpsychology #traumainformedcare

As a parent and advocate, I deeply understand the stress and isolation many caregivers face today. Parenting is joyful, but it’s also exhausting—especially when we don’t have enough support. Too often, our ego tells us that asking for help is a weakness, but the truth is, that accepting support is an act of strength. Let’s keep pushing for systems that better uplift families and offer the support they deserve. This article is straight from the SURGEON GENERAL. The Power of Spontaneity and Self-Initiative Spontaneity in therapy allows children to express themselves freely, without the constraints of structured activities. This freedom can lead to more authentic interactions and insights, as children are more likely to engage in activities that resonate with their interests and needs. Self-initiative, on the other hand, empowers children to take charge of their therapeutic journey, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility. https://wix.to/PNLb6gE #newblogpost #Playtherapy #Childledapprach #Arttherapy

If this one hit you right in the heart... You need to keep reading 👇🏼 As children, we rely on our caregivers to meet our emotional and physical needs. When these needs are consistently unmet, we may grow up feeling insecure and constantly seeking reassurance... An adult who texts 24/7 might be seeking the validation and attention they missed out on as a child. Constant communication can become a way to fill the emotional gaps left by unresponsive or unavailable caregivers. If as a child you experienced neglect or abandonment, you might develop an intense fear of being ignored or left behind. This fear can manifest in adulthood as the need for constant contact, ensuring you are not forgotten or abandoned again. Early attachment wounds can lead to a dysregulated nervous system. Constant texting can be a coping mechanism to soothe this dysregulation. The immediate response you seek provides a temporary sense of security and calm... But you don't have to live like this. You CAN break this pattern. Comment the word 'COLLECTIVE' and let me show you how my program can teach you how... . . . #nervoussystemhealth #nervoussystemregulation #nervoussystemhealing #nervoussystemsupport #somaticexperience #somaticeducation #nervoussystemreset #nervoussystemcoach #healyourbody #healyournervoussystem #relationship101 #healthyrelationship #secureattachment #anxiousattachment #fightorflight #anxiousattachmentstyle
