The annual People & Culture festival, organized by medianet Berlin, was all about #transformation – both digital and social. The challenges are immense: by 2030, Germany could face a shortage of up to five million skilled workers – more than any other country in Europe. But instead of resignation, we need a shift in mindset. 💡 Technologies like AI 🤖 and flexible work models offer enormous opportunities to bridge this gap. An inspiring work environment, where #innovation and joy in work take center stage, could be the key. Berlin has firmly established itself as one of Europe’s #innovation hub, with a strong emphasis on #AI advancements. However, the obstacles are clear: lengthy visa processing times ⏳ and a lack of affordable housing 🏘️ are slowing down the influx of #international talent. Additionally, around 25% of employees in Berlin’s public administration will be retiring in the coming years, and 69% of company executives in Berlin are over 50 years old – succession planning is becoming urgent. To harness the opportunities of digital and social transformation, we must find creative and forward-thinking solutions together. #PeopleAndCulture #InnovationHub #FutureOfWork #Berlin

☕ From Brexit to Bretzel 🥨 : Founding "Found" in Düsseldorf! After making Düsseldorf my home since March, I figured it was time to fully embrace life here—and what better way than launching my own company? I’m excited to introduce Found, a Recruitment team with a focus on three key areas: Technology, Finance, and ESG. Why those? Glad you asked... Technology: We're helping businesses find top talent to lead digital transformation, from AI to cloud computing and cybersecurity. Connecting innovators with companies ready to push boundaries. Finance: As finance evolves, we connect companies with experts who drive growth, navigate regulations, and future-proof their operations—from fintech to established institutions. ESG: Sustainability is the future of business. We place professionals passionate about building greener, more ethical companies in areas like corporate sustainability, renewable energy, and ethical investment. Why Düsseldorf? Well, besides falling in love with Fortuna 1895, Leberkäse and Kasematten (IYKYK), this city has quickly become home. It’s the perfect base for connecting talent across Germany's thriving business landscape. Being honest, after Brexit, setting up a company was one of the only plausible routes of immigration and living out a life long dream of mine. For my UK clients, don’t worry—DevRec Ltd will still be up and running in the meantime, but by the end of the year, the focus will shift fully to Found and EU roles as we wind things down on the GB side. At Found, we’re not just placing people in jobs—we’re helping businesses build the future of tech, finance, and sustainability. Here’s to new adventures in business and, of course, trying to master the language...is it Der, Die or Das for Nutella?! https://shorturl.at/JR2j1 (domain registration pending...😊) #FoundInDüsseldorf #TechRecruitment #FinanceRecruitment #ESG #BrexitPerks #BuildingTheFuture #DevRecToFound

We love to share the journeys of our employees. Here is another one from Engineering Director Mark West! "My journey at Ageras began when I joined Kontist, a German bank that the group had acquired. It was my first role as a self-employed contractor and on the product side. I thoroughly enjoyed working with my German colleagues and the challenges of the fintech space. I was delighted when my boss, Joe, recommended me for an Engineering Director position at Ageras". "It was a difficult decision as I had planned to remain self-employed and the role required relocating my family (plus pregnant partner) to Denmark. Nevertheless, the opportunity was too compelling to pass up. I relished the challenge of merging various teams, building a unified product, and expanding into European markets. I joined the company in November, later I moved to Copenhagen in February and have been enjoying the role since". How has this experience helped you grow professionally? "One thing I was surprised about was the need to improve my command of English for international use. Despite being a native English speaker, my accent initially posed a challenge and I have had many funny conversations about British colloquialisms. I've also begun learning Danish and started networking in the Copenhagen tech scene to better integrate. Working with teams from Germany, Poland, Finland, and the Netherlands it has taught me to appreciate subtle cultural nuances in the workplace. With my background in agency/consultancy which required adapting to new projects in entirely different industries frequently - here it really required me to deepen my knowledge in specific domains like invoicing, expenses, accounting, banking, and taxes, I am still pretty green but its significantly broadening my horizons." What is your favorite thing about working here? "Perhaps surprisingly, I enjoy the constant challenges and the rapid pace of change here. Moreover, the team culture here is refreshingly candid, quite different from my experience working in Manchester or London. I feel a strong sense of investment and passion from my team, peers, and seniors as we all share a product focus and collaborate closely on our shared journey".

Krakow is increasingly making waves as a thriving hub for international business. The city's entrepreneurial environment and the potential that Krakow offers to event organizers from around the world are highlighted in a captivating film, a part of the 'Malopolska Wide Open' series, honored at the International Corporate Film Festival FilmAT. This series aligns with the new positioning strategy of the Krakow Convention Bureau: “Know-how, City, Business” The film introduces us to the narratives of two audacious businessmen, shaping Krakow's contemporary business scene. Jarosław Królewski, the visionary behind Synerise, seamlessly blended his passion for football with a steadfast commitment to building an international tech and data processing powerhouse. Starting in e-commerce, Synerise has evolved into a global partner for major corporations, doubling its value annually. Królewski's philosophy underscores the potential for tremendous achievement in a life driven by courage and passion. Equally compelling is the story of Stefan Życzkowski, the mastermind behind Astor - a robotics company seated in the very heart of Krakow. A scientist and visionary, Życzkowski founded Astor in 1987, embarking on a journey of continuous expansion in robotics, cybernetics, and industrial process automation. His vision intertwines science and technology with the inherent potential of every individual, epitomizing the essence of his company: 'Technology Meets Humanity.' These two entrepreneurs exemplify the business potential of Krakow, showcasing exceptional minds, innovative visions, and the ability to build thriving organizations through exceptional teams. In corporate centers in Krakow, nearly 100,000 people are employed, with 40% being IT specialists. Additionally, employees here work in finance, customer service, HR, and marketing departments. The IT specialist pool in Krakow expands by approximately 10% each year. This growth isn't limited to Krakow graduates in IT fields but also includes individuals from other cities and countries seeking opportunities to advance their careers in Krakow. As Krakow positions itself as a prime destination for international events, hosting such thought leaders at conferences becomes a unique opportunity. Thank you Hamburg! Top-of-mind observations from three days in the Free and Hanseatic city: 1️⃣ Companies may contain traces of conservative cultural heritage, but the people are genuinely nice and appreciate our Finnish directness. The higher-up the boss, the friendlier they tend to be 2️⃣ Enterprise software is old and newcomers like Personio have gained crazy market share. For many B2B apps, it's relatively easy to be much better than what's currently in use. Integrations to old systems are probably necessary, so it's not just fun and games 3️⃣ Germany is spread out: many major client companies have HQs in B- or C-list cities (yeah, they ranked the cities, look it up) and consulting companies serious about working with them need to set up a site nearby. Thus, even mid-sized agencies have multiple offices around the country 1️⃣ + 2️⃣ + 3️⃣ = We can't wait to start collaborations with our new friends! Let's accelerate the positive progress towards new work and more transparent operations. Vielen Dank Marcus, Christoph, Oliver, und viele andere.

Thank you, Dortmund! 🇩🇪 ⚡ Last week, I had the chance to be invited by the Economic Development Agency Dortmund (cc Sabrina Christian) to take part in the Digital Week. Three days full of learning and discoveries in North Rhine-Westphalia. A city once industrial, transformed into a tech hub in just two decades. A remarkable transformation that commands respect. I attended a very interesting workshop on "How Not to Miss Your Expansion into Germany." It was a great opportunity to understand German culture, particularly its decentralization. The first takeaway is that "Germany" doesn’t exist in the same way we refer to "France"—there are "many Germanys." The Länder (federal states) and cities have a level of political autonomy that’s very different from France. For example, North Rhine-Westphalia is eager to attract French startups and businesses, while Berlin and Munich are saturated (cc Gernot Schwendtner). One of the highlights was a very interesting discussion on smart cities with Michael Dunker from adesso SE. We observe the same challenges as in France and Spain⤵️ > Data centralization is the key battleground > There’s a proliferation of siloed solutions > We're only at the beginning of cities and buildings' digitalization It was also a great opportunity to share our respective experiences with startups from various countries like Romania, Finland (Miikka), Belgium (Han), Portugal (Nuno), Spain (Francisco), Sweden, Ukraine, and many more. An incredible cultural experience. Thanks to Amiens Métropole, which facilitated the joint trip with Alva Systems to boost economic and cultural exchanges with this German twin city (cc Charlotte Sébastien Joseph). A special thanks to Business France, which also joined the event (cc Mathieu, Esteban). Looking forward to coming back in a few weeks! ✌️ #Dortmund #DigitalWeek #SmartCity #Germany

Ever wonder why Europe seems a bit behind tech players like Google, Amazon and Apple? It’s not about money. Europe is great at things like medicine and luxury goods (big cheers to GRANOLA companies like Roche, Novo Nordisk, AstraZeneca, L’Oreal, LVMH), but the biggest tech breakthroughs often come from companies in the U.S. Europe has all the ingredients—talent, history of craftsmanship and a robust industrial base— why is Europe a step behind in tech? Here’s my take on it: ➡ Regulatory Environment Europe generally has stricter regulations regarding data privacy (like GDPR), environmental standards, and antitrust laws. U.S. has a relatively more permissive regulatory environment for technology companies. ➡Cultural Attitudes Toward Innovation and Risk Europe tends to have a more cautious approach to business risk, with a strong preference for stability and gradual growth. U.S. has a stronger entrepreneurial culture with a higher tolerance for failure. ➡Investment in Technology and R&D Europe invests heavily in R&D, but the focus is often in specific sectors like pharmaceuticals and high-value engineering. In U.S. the volume of capital funneled into tech innovation is larger, with significant backing from venture capital that is more readily available. ➡Market Dynamics and Scale European companies have to deal with many different languages and rules which makes it hard to grow across the whole continent. The big, single market of th eU.S. makes it easier to get big fast and then go global. How Can Europe Catch Up? Here’s what we can do: ✅ Boost Funding: Increase investments in startups focused on cutting-edge technologies. ✅ Streamline Regulations: Simplify regulations to make it easier for companies to grow and innovate. ✅ Expand Tech Hubs: Promote areas where tech talent can collaborate and create new ideas. ✅ Embrace Risk: Encourage a culture that tolerates failure to eventually achieve success. Europe's got the brains and the history to be great in tech. We just need to use what we have smarter to ensure Europe can become a leader in the next wave of global tech innovation. #Innovation #Technology #EuropeTech #Entrepreneurship #DigitalTransformation #DigitalStrategy

Just as this day in Berlin gets off to a promising start, so does the journey of some exciting companies in the German market. Today, Miriam Breh and I do a workshop with a successful #fintech company to give their growth strategy in Germany an extra boost. Overall, we are seeing continued interest from companies from all over the world in writing a success story in the German market. The largest market in the eurozone, an industrial powerhouse, home to countless global market leaders and the famous German Mittelstand... There are many reasons to come to Germany. But anyone who has understood this market from a macro perspective still needs a little more to be successful here: - take a close (!) look at customers and really try to understand them - develop convincing narratives - prepare stories with attention to detail and - play them where the right people listen. Yes, #strategy is key. But execution eats strategy for breakfast. All the more grateful we are for the trust placed in us by our clients and for being able to advise clients holistically on their journey.
