Picture a seed confined to a jar on a shelf, craving the touch of soil, sunlight, and caring hands… Its true potential? Not in isolation but in the embrace of community—a collective commitment to its well-being. Every seed houses an ancient story of resilience, adaptation, and connection—a story woven not just in soil but in the hearts and minds of those who nurture them, and who safeguard their legacy for generations to come. A story that echoes the universal language of connection—a silent dialogue spoken in the soil of collective consciousness. This essence of rematriation transcends preservation—it's an act of love, bringing seeds back to their communities, reuniting them with rightful stewards, and honoring ancestral wisdom. Every day, around the world we are losing plant species and varieties that once nourished our ancestors. But you can help change that. Organizations like Seed Savers Exchange bridge past and present, tradition and innovation, sharing seeds to elevate communities and reclaim food sovereignty. And, in farms like Ukwakhwa Tsinu Niyukwayayathoslu @ukwakhwa, rematriation thrives, traditional seeds taking root once more, nourished by understanding hands amid rows of corn, beans, and squash. Their long term goal for this property is to serve as a place to host events where the community comes to learn about planting, growing, harvesting, seed keeping, food preparation, food storage, as well as making traditional tools and crafts. The philosophy is that every time an indigenous individual plants a seed, that is an act of resistance and an assertion of sovereignty. As we strive to preserve the diversity of seeds and the foods they produce, we invite you to learn more about Seed Rematriation and the possibilities it holds for your communities. Consider supporting orgs that are welcoming seeds back home, like Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance , Seed Savers Exchange , Dream of Wild Health , Southern Exposure Seed Exchange and @ukwakhwa 🌱 ___ ~ Video clip from “Seed Mother: Coming Home”, by Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance, Directed by Rowen White and Mateo Hinojosa ~ Cover image via Food Tank #seedkeepers #seedrematriation #indigenous

🌾 Happy Baisakhi! 🌾 Baisakhi not only marks the beginning of the harvest season but also symbolizes a fresh start, much like the promise of a new beginning. Just as farmers sow seeds for the Rabi crop, we too can see parallels in our lives. The Rabi crop, planted during the winter months, teaches us patience, resilience, and the importance of nurturing our goals and dreams. In today's world, where our behavior towards one another shapes our communities, let's draw inspiration from the significance of Baisakhi and the Rabi crop. Just as the Rabi crop flourishes under the care of farmers, may we too flourish as we nurture our aspirations and dreams. Let's cultivate kindness, empathy, and respect, fostering a community where everyone feels valued and celebrated. So, this Baisakhi, let's not only celebrate the harvest but also embrace the message of renewal and growth. Let's seize the opportunity to start afresh, cultivate positivity, and sow the seeds of a brighter future for ourselves and those around us. Here's to a Baisakhi filled with new beginnings, abundant blessings, and endless possibilities! 🌸 #Baisakhi #FreshStart #HarvestSeason #UnityInDiversity #CareerDevelopment #LifeSkills #mojopundit #careercounsellingservices #trainingprogram #NewAgeCareers #insyncwithkirtimalik #baisakhi2024

How about transplanting 2months old maize plants in areas like ukambani where we receive good rains within a month. That means I can grow early maturing maize varieties at Ukambani with one month rain. #seedpropagation #qualityseedlings

"Some astrologers had told my parents that I would bring bad luck," R Vishwan recalls, sighing as memories of a childhood steeped in superstition flood back. Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Vishwan was abandoned by his family at just seven years old, left to survive on the streets. Shunned by his community, he resorted to stealing food — until a kind stranger asked him to graze cattle for 15 paise a day. This job took him to the forests of Nilambur. It was there that Vishwan found a way to fill his stomach — honeycombs. “When I was hungry, I collected honey and drank it," he says. One day, he wondered, "Why can’t I keep bees, so I don’t have to wander around for honey?" With a discarded tomato box as his first beehive, he began his journey into honey farming. "I knew nothing about scientific methods, but hunger was my greatest motivator," he chuckles. Burning his first honeycomb, he collected a tin full of honey. At just 13, he took this honey to Kozhikode, making his first sale — a life-changing Rs 328. From that small start, Vishwan built a thriving honey-farming business. But Vishwan's journey wasn't without its obstacles. His lack of expertise posed challenges. However, his will to learn and hard work paid off. Today, he manages 6,000 beehive boxes, harvesting over 100 tonnes of honey annually, earning Rs 25-30 lakh each year — a far cry from the hungry boy on the streets. COP28 UAE- Reflections from building Raza Farm A integrated (nearly) organic farm 100 kms from #bangalore, #India Reason for investing:1.4 billion people will want food and water that will become scarce as with affluence folks overconsume. South India is suffering terribly from #climatechange & this is an acute problem facing our wider region This project was started when I was the lowest ebb of my proffesional career & wish to share my reflections as many translate into #healthcare . 1. Taking Longer term view of Projects and People: Takes long time to execute and deliver results. Some of biggest success stories of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company- SEHA - شركة أبوظبي للخدمات الصحية - صحة and Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City - SSMC have come with us ploughing away in the background for years 2. Ecosytem of Building: "Dont Shit where you Eat". I like my life in #UAE, hence focused on building and maintaining relationships. Our neighbours for Raza Farm are not folks who belong to my religion or class, but they where there when my mum got stranded during the first covid lockdown and I was in UAE. If I wish to live in that region for decades I have to be nice to my neighbours 3. Go Local: "Develop Local Solutions to Local Problems". As had a lot of time on my previous job - I used to see many Youtube hack's and tried to implement in the farm- including trying to bring seeds and plants from all over the world. All failed to grow or thrive. Some of the best fruits are coming from plants which I have sourced from the region who are hardy enough to survive that region. 4. Everything is Interconnected: "Systems View of Analytics". A #nephrologist goal is to prevent folks ending up on dialysis or atleast prevent them from getting hospitalized. Coming from leading centers of #kidneycare it was initially a shock but as I spent understanding the system, realized #kpis where misaglined. Here my friendship with Emre Simsekler opened my mind to why things work the way they do.Was the main trigger for the #digitilization of #renalcare in SEHA and SSMC. Because without data you can't get the executive sponsership for projects you need to do as an domain expert to improve care for your patients. 5. Objective Key Results- Objective has to be aspirational. It is no longer Siddiq saying this as maybe he wants to practice what he has trained in- but this is best for patients or institutions. Then folks around you will lend their talent & graft to make the project ( and you) successful Project RenAIssance has now been #peerreviewed & won multiple awards- from Department of Health Abu Dhabi, Ministry Of Economy, UAE, Ericsson, Northwestern University,Arab Hospitals Federation, Informa Markets, Kosmos by EchoNous , Cerner Corporation, Health Magazine HIMSS .. Could go on .. Please follow Raza Farm instagram account below- My place of Zen #cop28uae #cop28 https://lnkd.in/dgwD_skc
