We're proud to announce that Astra is supported by the iLAuNCH Trailblazer for 2024-2025! iLAuNCH - the Innovative Launch, Automation, Novel Materials, Communications, and Hypersonics Hub, led by the University of Southern Queensland, is boosting Australia's sovereign space capability and addressing skills shortages in space through future skills development initiatives like micro-credential pathways and research pathways for space engineering, including industry-based internships for PhD students. We are proud to collaborate with iLAuNCH to bring our Emerging Space Pioneer award to three outstanding candidates at the conclusion of the Astra Program. This award will allow three Astra participants to attend the Australian Space Forum in Adelaide, South Australia this year. We are grateful to the iLAuNCH team, especially Darin Lovett, Milica Symul, Kavanna Trewavas and Matthew Richardson, for supporting our aim to connect education with the Australian space industry for our participants.

Yesterday I was presenting what we are doing in UNIVERSEH European University at a meeting we arranged with Mytikas – LTUs Association for rocket enthusiasts. I presented some of the space research we do at Product Innovation and also some opportunities that we have in UNIVERSEH regarding space related courses, internships, mobility and other events. Fun to see how the model rocket has developed since I played with them in the 80s. Adding an onboard flight logger so you can analyse your flight or simulating the design was not in my toolbox 40 years ago – we just built from schematics, tested and often failed;-) #LearnigfromFailure #RocketDesign

Back by popular demand, OASA’s highly engaging summer internship programme is back in 2024 with a new theme — 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽. The upcoming #SummerFun programme will be our Fourth Run. Want your child (age 13 and up) to learn how to plan and execute a sample mission and speak with real-life #MissionSpecialists? Dibtou have a son or daughter (age 13 and up) who is looking to explore the wonders of #NewSpace? What does it take to learn to become a leader and a space explorer, and to gain a new mindset? This summer, for aspiring astropreneurs only, this highly selective programme will pick 20 best young minds and expand their world of possibilities. First by OASA once again, and supported by HKU’s Lab for Space Research (#LSR), PolyU’s Aeronautical Engineering Dept, #Cyberport, #AirSat, AsiaSat, and many in the rapidly growing Space Industry...OASA is proud to bring to the #GreaterBayArea once again, an innovative and tailored-made challenge for our youths.  Every intern will be assigned: - 1. A global mentor during this 4-week journey, - 2. A mission and be guided to plan and create a mission like an entrepreneur, - 3. An exercise to create one's own career portfolio for university entrance, showcasing one's space journey, - 4. A team to build their own mini-satellite, and - 5. A chance to direct questions to a real-life mission specialist. Each intern prepares a college-level project, receives an independent assessment from mission and payload specialists, engineers, and professors; and gets a toehold into their "Overview Perspective." Stepping and Upper Limb Balance Recovery Strategies under Push Perturbation”, hosted at the Inria Centre at the University of Rennes. This research builds on the European CrowdDNA H2020 Project, aiming to deepen our understanding of balance recovery mechanisms in dense crowds and constrained spaces. 📌 Project Highlights: - Objective: Investigate how upper limb movements and stepping strategies help maintain balance under sudden push perturbations. - Research Approach: Experiment design to explore alternative balance strategies (like using hand contact surfaces) and reanalysis of existing data on balance recovery. - Impact: Results could enhance fall prevention strategies in crowded environments and contribute to next-generation crowd simulation models. 💼 Skills & Interests: - Background in (bio)mechanics - Proficiency in data analysis and programming (Python, Matlab) - Interest in experimental research and statistical analysis This internship will be a collaboration between the Combo and VirtUs teams at Inria Rennes, with expertise from Gustave Eiffel University and Forschungszentrum Jülich.
