Educating the public on responsible drinking is our responsibility. And by “our,” I mean the spirits industry. That’s why DISCUS has established a comprehensive Code of Responsible Practices for Beverage Alcohol Advertising and Marketing. It’s also why we’re seeing such a surge in innovation in this area.    ✅ Low and non-alcoholic beverages and their increasing presence in our space ✅ Diageo’s DrinkIQ and similar initiatives are designed to educate the public about drinking ✅ Millions of dollars invested into ad campaigns ✅ Community partnerships ✅ Apps like BAC Tracker track your blood alcohol content by amount, type, and timing of alcohol consumed. It’s great to see so many companies stepping up and taking responsibility in this area. I’ve only named a few, and I know there are more. So, I’d like to extend an invitation. If you can think of any great examples of educational initiatives, partnerships, or apps designed to promote safe and responsible drinking, please share them in the comments! This partnership represents an excellent initial partnership and investment opportunity. For 2025, expect to see an increase in bolt-on M&A and partnership activity among major CPG companies, alongside a focus on operational cost reductions. Organic operating profit growth for both large and small brands is driven by several key factors: increases in net pricing, higher volumes achieved through household penetration, greater purchase frequency plus basket size, and reductions in COGS and SG&A expenses. Naturally, this growth, when challenged, can also be bolstered through strategic M&A activities.   Currently, large CPG companies and emerging smaller brands are navigating a mix of headwinds and tailwinds, with varying factors contributing to their organic profit growth. A study carried out by Bristol City Council and the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group at the University of Bristol has found that making alcohol-free beer more available on draught in pubs and bars may help people switch from alcoholic beer. 14 pubs and bars across Bristol temporarily changed the drinks they offered on draught. When an alcohol-free version was available, venues sold, on average, 51 fewer pints of alcoholic beer per week - a reduction of 4-5%. Crucially, this was replaced by an equal increase in sales of non-alcoholic options, meaning that the pubs lost no revenue. Far from reducing consumer choice, the temporary change increased it - customers had more choice, and the change could reduce alcohol consumption levels and improve public health. What's not to like about that? If you feel you'll never get to the stage of actively preferring an alcohol-free beer to one with alcohol in it, you are not alone.
