Great news for miDiagnostics, who secured a €30 Million Series D funding round to advance an innovative sterility test and other quality control tests for use in the biopharma industry! The funding round is led by Thermo Fisher Scientific and strengthened by Alychlo, VMF Invest and Pamica. Katleen Verleysen, CEO at miDiagnostics, says: "We advance our mission to revolutionize sterility testing in the biopharma sector. This funding will enable us to expedite our development efforts and leverage Thermo Fisher’s expertise for the commercialization of our pioneering products.” Exciting times for this imec spin-off! Congratulations!

We are excited to share how Crystal Pharmatech utilizes PBPK modeling for the fastest and most efficient formulation development. Register to attend!   Subject Matter Expert, Ridwan Islam, M. Pharm., Ph.D., will present: “Utility of PBPK Modeling as Step 1 in a 3-Step First Time Right Crystal Pharmatech Formulation”   Abstract: PBPK modelling is a valuable tool to address a much wider range of pharmaceutical applications besides drug-drug interactions. We present here PBPK modeling applications routinely used at our CDMO for in-vitro to in-vivo translation and pharmacokinetic modelling in preclinical species in addition to first-in-human pharmacokinetic predictions. Linking of in-silico quantitative structure–property relationship models with (PBPK) modelling is Step 1 of a tailored Formulation for Phase I. Combined with parameter sensitivity we can clearly identify the key compound API Form and Formulation properties. This leads to the fastest, most efficient formulation development with visibility into future clinical trials.

Life Science Sweden Bioscience Conference, the 12th annual edition of this international scientific event, will take place on Thursday 7 November. Professor Johan Rockberg from KTH Royal Institute of Technology will guide participants through the event, which will address major challenges and the latest research findings. 🔬 💊 RISE Research Institutes of Sweden researchers Jenny Blomqvist, Senior Analytical Scientist specialising in biologics development, and Lina Nyström, Formulation Scientist and Project Manager, will present "Pitfalls along the drug development path". The presentation will cover lessons learned during biopharmaceutical drug development, how early planning can prevent costly delays, exploration of formulation strategies, stability testing and analytical method development, supported by real-world examples from both research and commercial projects. "We see a trend where stability and process challenges discovered at later stages of drug development cause longer delays than if the same issue had been addressed earlier in the process," says Jenny Blomqvist.
