IDOT is seeking to hire Highway Maintainers. This position is responsible for operating CDL Class A licensed vehicles, performing labor relating to maintenance of roadway signage, operating snowplows and spreading salt and sand, performing routine housekeeping duties at headquarters, and removing and disposing of trash, dead animals, and other debris along highways. This position is also responsible for performing other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above. Maxima's Road2Work program has changed the lives of Josh and Liz. Supported by Maxima, Josh works in a couple of part time jobs as an Office Cleaner and a Car Detailer. Josh advises he has long struggled with his mental health and confidence but has now overcome his fear and anxiety around work. His confidence has grown so much during his time with Maxima, that he now participates in our Road2Work program as a learner driver. The Road2Work program assists customers in completing their required driving hours to increase their employability. Josh feels he will have more opportunities for future employment once he secures his Driver’s License. He is incredibly proud of his work and his ability to save money which has enabled him to now buy his own car. Through Maxima’s Road2Work program , Josh is assisted by Liz, a Maxima customer working at Bus West, who aides students in accessing bus services to and from school. In addition to this role, she volunteers each week as a Volunteer Supervising Driver where she supports people like Josh work towards getting their license, to access job opportunities that might not have been possible. Being a Telecoms rigger in a past life, working at height on structures was my bread and butter. I never really understood the link between clearance heights and selecting the right equipment though. I took it for granted that the equipment provided would protect me - just work and do its job. Moving to SpanSet was a real eye opener. I was struck by a wider understanding and realised there were many more equipment options and ways of working than I had seen previously. As an Instructor for many years, I saw how some people struggled with information just like I had. Making the most of Fall Arrest takes both knowledge and experience which not everyone has. Now working in Sales, I enjoy using my background to understand the problems workers at height have on different jobs and providing them with the solutions I would have liked when I was a Rigger.
