An idea I am working on (in part for an upcoming workshop but also more generally): What could happen if we moved away from frustration with student "non-participation" and anxiety about speaking in class etc.... ...and moved toward a thought pattern like this: "I'm going to consider offering a variety of equally encouraged methods of participating (speaking and non speaking, synchronous and asynchronous, etc). If the class doesn’t end up looking or sounding how I expect, I will evaluate whether our class activities still are in alignment with the goals rather than assuming failure. Perhaps my expectations can be reconsidered” I think the idea is not to "give up" on certain kinds of participation or activities, but just to be aware of our own thought patterns and expectations, and not consider it an immediate problem if things don't match initial expectations.

  Have you got something like a time consuming Fergal in your life? Two Fridays ago we got this new bundle of joy-Fergal we have called him. His two step-brothers ( 2 and 13 years old) are coping well with this new intrusion in their life but we have had to take on a new routine! We are toilet-training him at the moment and trying to feed him separately from the other two (he isn't shy and wants to eat everybody's food). It's quite time-consuming and we have had to adopt new habits and make additional time in the day! Another reason why I don’t recommend multiple choice based exams, it’s because cheating is rampant. We know about this, hiring managers know about this… stick to practical hands-on training that will give you skills instead of cramming and collecting multiple choice based certs that won’t help you with your journey. None of ghe multiple choice-based certs helped me with anything…

There's so much creativity in creating courses and challenges! ... even when you're first getting your course online the process will feel easier when you can bring your own creativity to it.
