My bets where AI won't replace humans: 1) Human connection: Like the one that many of us just had at Config. 2) Shared human experience: When you look at another person's eye and you know you've been through a similar joyful and painful journey. 3) Real stories behind art and culture: I listen to music, and I like paintings not just because they feel good, but because there's a real human story behind it that speaks back to 2. 4) Ingenious net new creative fields: AI can use past things to create something new by mixing them, but it's mostly always can't really create something completely new and unseen. 5) What's your bet?

Recognize the person below? That's one of the leading figures in AI right now (and his journey is absolutely inspiring) 👇 That's Demis Hassabis - the CEO and co-founder of Google DeepMind. He typically flies under the radar, but has pioneered some of the greatest advancements in AI. His journey so far... 🏆 Considered a 'child prodigy' in chess at the age of 4, he became one of the world's youngest chess masters by the age of 13 🕹 Founded Elixir Studios - a gaming company - at the age of 22. He then sold the IP rights to publishers 7 years later 📚 Obtained a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL. During his time there, his research contributed to one of the top 10 scientific breakthroughs of 2007 🧠 In 2010, Demis co-founded DeepMind alongside AI notables Mustafa Suleyman and Shane Legg. DeepMind is an AI research lab with the goal of 'solving intelligence', and notably developed AlphaGo - which defeated a world champion Go player 🤝 In 2014, Google acquired DeepMind for £400 million. Since then, Demis has pioneered some of the largest AI breakthroughs at Google, including their most recent release of the 'Gemini' language model -- Demis is committed to building AI the 'right' way, and listening to his interviews never fails to get me excited about what lies ahead. Lights, Camera, AI. There’s a new musician around the corner and it’s not ‘who' you think it is. Recently Dr Charles Martin from the ANU School of Computing, joined by two of his students and Dr Alexander Hunter from the ANU School Of Music had the most epic concert ever. With AI and augmented reality embedded in their instruments, it was not just a sight for sore eyes but music for the soul. Researchers at ANU have introduced AI to help diagnose diseases, figure out the origins of the Universe, solve complex computational problems, and co-pilot helicopters. However, generative AI has yet to be used this way. So, what’s that sound you ask? Just a duet of humans and AI in concert. "Do Machines Deep Dream of Automated Artists?" It`s a pleasure to announce that Andres Burbano will be a keynote speaker at the international conference "Towards an Automated Art? Learning Machines, Human Creativity and Uncertainty". He will speak on the cross-relations between AI and the arts, but "rather than examining the influence of AI on the arts, the focus will shift towards exploring the significant contributions made by the arts to contemporary conceptions and practices related to AI while also engaging in critical discussions about it." https://lnkd.in/dzXCc7un Remember: the conference will take place in Lisbon on May 24. And registration is open until May 5!!! Looking forward to seeing you here!
