PCB procurement often involves a delicate balance. Timely delivery is crucial, yet premature arrivals can pose challenges. When it comes to orchestrating your supply chain, our industry employs several methods to maintain efficiency. For high-volume clients such as automotive OEMs, the "Push" supply chain management system operates independently of current demand, relying on historical production needs to determine required quantities. Under this traditional approach, deliveries are scheduled based on estimated annual usage, irrespective of immediate necessity. While the Push method was once predominant, technological advancements have spurred a transition to a more agile approach known as the "Pull" system. Here, production is triggered by specific events, such as due dates or minimum quantity thresholds. Pull systems encompass methodologies like Just In Time (JIT), Kanban, and Min/Max, tailoring output to actual demand and streamlining inventory management. As a PCB buyer, your objective is to secure competitive pricing without overcommitting on orders. Both Push and Pull systems offer avenues to achieve this, albeit with nuanced considerations. I propose a hybrid supply chain approach that integrates elements of both Push and Pull systems. Here's the framework: issue purchase orders based on annual usage, with quarterly builds scheduled for monthly or bi-weekly delivery. Every 90 days, assess actual production demands against forecasts and adjust order volumes accordingly. Incorporating this 90-day review into quarterly supplier meetings ensures alignment and agility. This method ensures product availability at competitive rates while mitigating the risk of overstocking, ensuring a steady flow in your PCB pipeline. What makes a right custom manufacturing partner: Examine the Kind of Products They Manufacture The type of products prospective custom manufacturers produce is one of the critical things you have to consider when determining the right partner. You might need only a particular product now; however, it would be best to partner with a manufacturer that can handle a wide variety of products if you choose to expand your product lines in the long run. Partner with a manufacturer that works with an extensive range of materials and has innovative tools to handle your project. It guarantees flexibility and saves costs in the long run, eliminating the need to partner with numerous manufacturers for different products.
