Isobel Filipova 🔦 , Founder of Product Sustainability by Devign, shows us how we can improve life cycle assessments (LCAs) to minimize greenwashing and drive sustainability.
Isboel plays a crucial role in sustainable design and environmental compliance within several organizations. Collaborating closely with R&D, Isboel drives innovation in eco-friendly technologies and materials, aiming to reduce their carbon footprint and enhance product sustainability.
She brings extensive experience in pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing with a strong focus on sustainability. She is a respected expert, and is often featured as a speaker at conferences such as Pharmapack, PDA, LCIC, and the UN Global Compact.
Here’s what we learned from Isobel:
For Manufacturers: It's crucial to understand that life cycle assessment (LCA) softwares are not the source of truth when determining product offerings. Many tools use varying variables and metrics. A reliable LCA tool should integrate current standards, scenario analysis capabilities, calculate packaging impacts accurately, and consider distribution routes.
For Procurement: Beware of greenwashing: the act of making false or misleading statements about the environmental benefits of a product/service. Isobel advises organizations to collaborate with LCA specialists or consultants to validate sustainability claims thoroughly.
Isobel emphasizes the need for collaboration to drive change. Currently, she’s looking to collaborate with leaders in the industry to establish standardized metrics to enable comparison across raw materials and products.
Let's applaud Isobel for her visionary leadership and dedication to sustainable design!
