Today is World Haemophilia Day. You may ask why I'm riding a bicycle alongside my fellow colleagues Maziar Mike Doustdar and Ludovic Helfgott and with the help of Team Novo Nordisk - well, for two reasons: To support the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation's fundraiser to purchase crutches and wheelchairs for people whose ability to move freely and easily has been impaired by their haemophilia. To raise awareness on how far we've come in helping treat and care for people living with haemophilia - and how far we still need to go to address more unmet needs. For those living with haemophilia, issues with joint pain and the prevalence of bleeds are limitations to their daily activities - whether it's going for a walk, buying groceries, or riding a bicycle. Together, we, alongside our partners, can help create a future where haemophilia has less limitations and more possibilities. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dGVPfc9W #WorldHemophiliaDay #WHD2024

As part of our commitment to expand access to quality health care, Helmsley has granted $11.6 million to three health systems in Nevada, bringing life-saving #ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) technology for patients in rural communities suffering from acute cardiac and pulmonary failure. The availability of ECMO provides timely medical support to those experiencing severe respiratory and cardiovascular distress who face additional challenges around physician shortages, lack of equipment, and geographic barriers to emergency treatment. The grants will go to Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican Siena Hospital, Renown Health Foundation, and University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC), funding physician and staff travel to active extracorporeal life support centers, training equipment, consultation services, and other tools for program expansion across the state. “ECMO can be a game changer for patients with severe heart and lung conditions,” said Walter Panzirer, a Helmsley Trustee. “Without ECMO, hospitals have to transfer patients to other facilities, and those who are too unstable for transport could die before receiving needed care.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dSBcE5Eb

🌟 Our hospital—like so many across our healthcare system, is at a crossroads. PRHC and the community we serve are facing serious problems. We know we need creative, inspired, efficient solutions to tackle them. Without advancements in technology and increased capacity, we risk leaving our patients behind. Well today, our community agreed that we could not sit by and let the standard of care our donors helped establish slip away. Instead, we decided to reimagine our healthcare future with the launch of the largest-ever fundraising effort in the PRHC Foundation’s history: The $60 Million Campaign for Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Led by our volunteer Campaign Council and guided by PRHC’s visionary plans, the campaign will empower world-class care, fuel innovation, help PRHC attract top healthcare professionals, and address critical hospital challenges head-on. What began with ambitious goals has quickly evolved into a transformative endeavour thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors. Already, we've achieved an astounding 75% of our $60 million goal, totalling an incredible $45.5 million. This early success has already enabled us to make significant investments in upgrading our facilities and introducing state-of-the-art equipment, setting the stage for even greater advancements in patient care. As we enter the public phase of our campaign, I invite you to join us in reimagining healthcare in our region. Your support—whether through philanthropy, advocacy, or spreading the word—is essential to our success. Together, we can create a healthier, stronger future for all. Learn more about the Campaign for PRHC and how you can get involved at prhcfoundation.ca. #TheCampaignForPRHC #reImagineHealthCare #HealthcareInnovation #PRHC

Free movie event tonight! And i'm in it!!! Dear Friends of the CF Community, Life’s challenges can be more formidable for some than others, even among those who share a common bond, but it is as a community that we rise to face these challenges. A group of 10 people with cystic fibrosis (CF) wanted to share their message that anything is possible to the next generation growing up with CF, and the 26.2 Miles Apart project provided them the platform to do just that. Even before the availability of the new, life-changing CF specific modulators, ten people with CF agreed to run the Boston Marathon as a team only to be briefly stymied by the pandemic. Then another group of ten people with CF came together in 2021 as the next "26.2 Miles Apart" team to run the 125th Boston Marathon, proving to themselves, their community and the world, what is possible through a shared purpose and sheer determination. These are some of their stories… Please join us for this free event in the Seaport during NACFC, at the Artists for Humanity EpiCenter (100 W 2nd Street, Boston) at 6:30, Friday September 27th, to commemorate the 26.2 Miles Apart Team with food, drinks (beer, wine, soda, etc.), music by Qwill & Samantha Farrell, and an art exhibit by friends from our CF community locally and worldwide. We will be joined by family, friends and those attending the CF conference. No tickets necessary but feel free to donate to our sponsor, Closing the Gap Foundation (flyer with link attached, picture below), and space is limited so join us on a first come first serve basis. FAQ Is there a policy on CF patients attending this event? We are utilizing the same policy that the CF Foundation uses, see here: https://lnkd.in/eUxcrRm5. We also acknowledge that patients and families must make their own decisions, and we cannot guarantee that more than one CF patient will not attend this indoor event.
