Is your phone keeping you up at night? With a few tweaks to your tech habits, you can wake up more refreshed and ready to face the day. Move it. Charge your device as far away from your bed as possible. Added bonus? The distance may help you feel less overwhelmed in general. Dim it. Dim your screen or use a red filter app at night. The bright blue light of most devices can mess with your circadian rhythm and melatonin production. Set it. Alarms aren’t just for waking up – set a bedtime alarm to remind you that it’s time to wrap it up for the night. Lock it. If you’ve got a scrolling habit you need to kick, try an app-blocking app that makes it impossible to get lost in after-hours emails, social media or gaming. Block it. Tell notifications to buzz off if they’re waking you up at night. Put your phone on “do not disturb” mode to block it all out when you’re trying to sleep. https://lnkd.in/eYQwx7C9 #wellnesswednesday #americanheartassocation

Nature sound is your best companion Nature sounds like white noise, sea waves, and birdsong have been proven to relieve ear pressure caused by annoying noises. These sounds can help infants feel calm and sleep better, serving as a natural relaxation solution. Some parents sing or hum to lull their babies to sleep, and some play music with their smartphones. When using a smartphone to play music for your baby, remember to switch it to flight mode to avoid any disruptive noises. Wellcare's Naturcare Sound Relaxation is your and your babies' best companion. It can be used when changing the baby's diaper, feeding the baby, taking a stroll in the park, or any other time to calm your baby's mood and help them fall asleep more easily. Have you ever thought about how much information your cell phone has about you? The cell phone has become almost an extension of our work and social life, we carry it everywhere, we consult it at the beginning and end of the day and it is the means of communication par excellence in today's world. From the moment we acquire the phone and associate it with our email account and phone number, we start sharing personal data. With each application that is installed, permissions are given so that these applications know your preferences and interests. This is what is known as Metadata (data beyond data) and comprises all that information that is inferred from our digital behaviors and our daily routines, but is not obvious. Some of the things your smartphone knows about you are: 1. The speed at which you walk and whether you engage in daily physical activity (through location) 2. Where you live, where you work, and what places you frequent. (Through location history and location tags on social networks) 3. Health status and amount of physical activity (through geolocation and sports or fitness apps). 4. Shopping habits, food and use of transportation services, (Through home, transportation and shopping apps). 5. Sleep routines: at what time you wake up and go to sleep (through the alarm service and phone usage schedules). While it is impossible to share zero information with your phone, using secure browsers and restricting the number of apps to those that are really necessary will help you reduce what your smartphone knows about you.

One night in the summer, Emily Guerin’s electronic bassinet abruptly demanded money for a feature she relied on to soothe her baby to sleep. The internet-connected, $1,700 bassinet, which Guerin borrowed from a friend, reliably comforted her 1-month-old — just as it had her first child — until it started charging $20 a month for some features. “It all felt really intrusive — like they went into our bedroom and clawed back this feature that we’ve been depending on,” said Guerin, 38. When the Snoo's maker, Happiest Baby, introduced a premium subscription for some of the bassinet's most popular features in July, owners filed dozens of complaints to the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau, coordinated review bombs and vented on social media — saying the company took advantage of their desperation for sleep to bait-and-switch them. Some experts see it as an example of how the smart device landscape has shifted for parents drawn to baby products that promise to track sleep, crying, digestion and hunger. “This new technology is actually allowing manufacturers to change the way the status quo has been for decades, which is that once you buy something, you own it and you can do whatever you want,” said Lucas Gutterman, who leads the Public Interest Group's Design to Last campaign and co-signed a letter urging the FTC to regulate internet-connected products that have lost software support or functionality after purchase. “Right now, consumers have no trust that what they’re buying is actually going to keep working.” Read more about smart devices, baby gear and the politics of owning a product you bought in The Washington Post: https://lnkd.in/g6qivWxZ

Mood-boosting hack: brighter rooms = better results! BROAD light therapy might be the easy fix you need . Comparing light therapies: Did you know that 6 hours of BROAD light therapy (Bright, whole-ROom, All-Day) was found to be as effective for mood support as 30 minutes with a 10,000 lux light box? For those finding it hard to sit by a light box daily, brightening up your space at home or work can be just as powerful. The brighter the room, the better the results! In a nutshell: BROAD light therapy in this study was a treatment duration of at least 6 hours on at least 5 days a week for at least 4 weeks. The BROAD light therapy bulbs emitted 72,000 and 102,000 lumens, and the mean illuminance at eye level when sitting was 1433 and 1829 lux in the cold and in the warm light condition respectively (as measured by the participants with a smartphone app). Participants used one or two 10- to 20 m-long socket cords with 20-40 light bulbs each. Read the study: https://lnkd.in/edfmQ9PH . . . #vitazan #mindful #monday #moodboosting #results #light #therapy
