Prospective employees are increasingly seeking organizations that align with their values and beliefs. It is competitive out there, but nonprofits are in a leading position to communicate their mission, impact, and commitment to social responsibility to attract great talent. The image your organization presents to prospective employees must be unique and central to your brand’s values. And, they must be shared authentically to best differentiate from competitors. I firmly believe that brands and advertising can be powerful agents of creative upliftment within the cultures they engage with. However, so often they shamelessly prove me wrong like the recent actions by SSENSE. The destruction of an 8-year-old mural in the ARTS DISTRICT by the legendary artist Saber is a stark reminder of the need for responsible engagement. Painting ads over public artwork, even with permission, feels inherently wrong. Public art is a gift to the community, a shared expression that goes beyond commerce. It's disheartening to witness the disregard for cultural contributions in the pursuit of corporate gain. With creatives playing an integral role in the success of businesses, we should expect more thoughtful collaboration between brands and communities. Art and culture deserve our utmost respect. I'm so proud to unveil my new logo. From a young age, I've had a desire to help people. As I grew older, this innate inclination to assist others blossomed into a deeper understanding of the complexities of human struggles and the myriad ways in which I could contribute to easing them. I've spent years studying, working on myself and helping others, all leading to this point. The logo is symbolic of my own journey, I remember when I was a wee boy, as we say here in Scotland, bringing a bunch of dandelions in from the field for my Mum. She said innocently "awk thanks pal, but they're weeds." I accepted that without question, with my excitement somewhat squashed. As I grew older, I learned about this amazing concept of perspective! Merriam-Webster states the definition of the word perspective is “the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance.” How often do we give power to a situation or thought or opinion that doesn’t properly align with its relative importance in our life? In other words, how often do we take on beliefs because of someone else's perspective? The dandelion is a simple but powerful example of this, some see a weed and some see a wish. At this point in life, I now see dandelions as a symbol of hope, dreams, aspirations, a reclamation of power and a refreshed perspective on life. Remember, we weren’t born with perspectives. These are ideals that have been molded and defined by every facet of our life. For those wondering how our logo was created, here some hints to walk you through the visual identity and how it represents our offer: The logo visually communicates two main concepts: 1. **Human Diversity Representation**: The four shapes in the logo represent human figures, emphasizing the diversity of people. Each shape is a different geometric form, signifying the variety and uniqueness among individuals. 2. **Insights Discovery Colors**: The four colored circles above the shapes (representing the human heads) are used to represent the four colors of the Insights Discovery model: - **Blue (Cool Blue)**: Analytical, precise, cautious. - **Red (Fiery Red)**: Assertive, determined, direct. - **Green (Earth Green)**: Caring, patient, cooperative. - **Yellow (Sunshine Yellow)**: Sociable, enthusiastic, positive. Taking a storytelling approach to design means having a clear idea on what every piece of work you do is trying to communicate. Stories aren’t always told with words. For us, stories could mean creating environments that can be enjoyed and even shared on social media. These images are from our recent work with Christs Church in New Jersey highlighting the entry into the children's areas. This environment was designed to serve as a photo opportunity to help the church share their brand and the newly updated areas. Using an authentic hot air balloon basket and removing much of the existing carpet and wrapping the floor with fun activities and playful way-finding lines have children running to the area!
