Healthcare providers, how are you addressing the shortage in BD BACTEC blood culture media bottles? The FDA recommends prioritizing the use of blood cultures for patients with clinical signs of a bloodstream infection. SeptiCyte® RAPID, a sepsis diagnostic test, has been approved by the FDA to differentiate #sepsis from non-infectious SIRS directly from blood within 60 minutes. SeptiCyte® RAPID can directly support preserving blood culture media for patients at high sepsis risk during this critical supply shortage. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4e6AC5N

Time For Continuous ABX? This large study on over 7,000 critically ill sepsis patients, investigated the benefits of continuous IV antibiotic drips versus intermittent dosing (PMID: 38864155). The study revealed a small but significant reduction in the 90-day death rate and higher infection cure rates with continuous drips, all without increasing side effects. While further research is needed, this method may pave the way for more effective sepsis treatment in the future. Will you use this in your practice? #EmergencyMedicine #criticalCare #Resuscitation #Sepsis

World Sepsis Day - Sepsis Prevention: Save Lives, Stop Suffering Sepsis is a life-threatening complication of an infection and arises when the body’s response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs. Sepsis can lead to shock, multi-organ failure and even death, especially if not recognised early and treated promptly. Let’s create awareness about Sepsis and support the patients suffering with it. 🥸What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Sepsis? Because it can begin in different parts of your body from difference sources of infection, sepsis can have many different symptoms. The early warning signs and symptoms of sepsis include: S-Shortness of breath and elevated HR E-Extreme tiredness/fatigue P-Pale Skin S-Swelling I-Intense pain/discomfort S-Shaking, chills or fever Absent rapid treatment, sepsis can result in tissue damage, organ failure, and death. Initial sepsis treatment begins with a blood draw, cultures and imaging to confirm a Sepsis diagnosis, this process can take several days. Time is of the essence. With the SeptiCyte RAPID FDA cleared test, clinicians can make time-sensitive decisions for suspected sepsis patients within 1 hour on the molecular level, without the need to identify the pathogen, for best patient care ❤️ and outcomes and antibiotic stewardship. Last Friday, the 13th of September, was World Sepsis Day. Established in 2012 by the Global Sepsis Alliance, the campaign encourages everyone to unite to combat sepsis, a life-threatening condition caused by the body’s reaction to infection. Read the poster below for some interesting facts about the condition. Sepsis is usually treated with broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics, in an attempt to combat the infection. However, it is sometimes too late and the reaction to the infection could cause irreversible damage and even death, before the antibiotics can begin to take effect. Also, anti-microbial resistance (AMR) can lead to reduced efficacy of the antibiotics, causing a delay while the right treatment is established and worsening the risk of a negative outcome. Read the blog on our website covering one of the latest ideas in the fight against AMR: https://lnkd.in/ergPAQPB #Pharmora #WorldSepsisDay #SepsisAwareness #2030GlobalSepsisAgenda #Sepsis #StopSepsis #SaveLives

Products Super Load Body with Excessive S Protein - Injecting after Infection Builds a Bigger Enemy Within Us Measurement of antibodies to the S protein is routine community standard of care in the assessment of long-COVID and product injury syndromes. Recall the US FDA did not allow companies to inject COVID-19 recovered patients in the registration clinical trials because they had great expected harm and no opportunity for clinical benefit. Later, three studies demonstrated that indeed product administration after infection was a bad idea with much greater risks of serious adverse events than SARS-CoV-2 naive patients. Did you know? SecurAcath offers significant cost savings due to reduced catheter complications. Catheter movement and malpositioning can lead to clinical complications like infection, thrombosis, phlebitis, and vessel damage. When securement related complications occur, additional costs of care are created to manage them. Common added costs are due to: • Antibiotic therapy • Catheter replacement • Increased length of stay • Labor cost • Repeat chest x-ray to verify tip location • tPA use The cost of unnecessary catheter replacements and catheter-related infections is significant and we’re happy to report that SecurAcath has been shown to reduce these costs.
