The latest publication of @biondi_lab covering a significant chapter of my PhD work is out! 🥳 Happy to further contribute knowledge to allosteric #drugdevelopment with our study in the Journal of Biological Chemistry (#JBC) on the regulation of the #kinase PRK2 using targeted small compounds: https://lnkd.in/diSHWq8q In this work, we investigated the allosteric modulation of PRK2, both intramolecularly as well as intermolecularly with its upstream kinase PDK1 using a #chemicalbiology approach and demonstrated how this #proteinprotein interaction can be manipulated using small molecules. Our study highlights the potential for developing allosteric activators and inhibitors of PRKs, which could have applications in nutrient sensing, insulin sensitization, cancer and viral infections like hepatitis C. Great teamwork with Facundo Galceran and Alejandro E. Leroux, a story supervised both in Buenos Aires and Frankfurt by Ricardo M. A new real-world research study from ISAR, published in Frontiers in Immunology reveals the strength of the asthma tests (biomarkers) BEC (Blood Eosinophil Count) and FeNO (Fractional exhaled Nitric Oxide) in predicting which severe asthma patients will benefit the most from treatment with biologics, driving critical progress in delivery of targeted, precision medicine in asthma care. The field of #mRNA-based #vaccines and #therapeutics shows promise for the future. Chemically modified ribonucleotides, honored with the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, enhance stability and decrease immunogenicity. However, N1-methylpseudouridine modification, integral to COVID vaccines, leads to ribosomal frameshifting and potential off-target effects in immunity. The study on the COVID-19 vaccine BNT162b2 reveals slower translation elongation and suggests the need for future mRNA designs to mitigate such off-target products.
