#Every child deserves the safety, security, and unconditional love that only a permanent family can provide. Yet, every year in the United States, about 20,000 young people #age #out of foster care without achieving this essential permanence. These youth, left to navigate life on their own, face significant challenges, including #higher #risks of homelessness, joblessness, early parenthood, and substance use. This is a #reality we cannot ignore. When we #support efforts to provide lasting, loving homes for older youth in foster care, we change the trajectory of their lives, offering them the stability they need to #thrive. Let’s #work #together to ensure no child leaves foster care without the security of a family. Whether through adoption, mentorship, or community support, each of us can play a role in making sure these young people have the foundation they #deserve. #Help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 in the month of August: https://lnkd.in/eGxQYYrm #Join #us in this critical mission to provide forever families for all children. Because every child deserves a family—no exceptions. #FosterCare #Adoption #YouthSupport #ForeverFamily #CommunityAction

You can't pit community against one another and foster an environment for community support at the same time. Vulnerability post: My neighbor might be trolling me and as a parent with multiple "opportunities for support," it sucks. One example (of several) occurred just yesterday when my kids saw one of their children riding their skateboard that has been missing from our yard for a month. We ALL can play a role in supporting families in our communities, which means that in an ideal world I could approach my neighbor with curiosity and maybe even try to find out what their opportunities for support are. Unfortunately, here in Kentucky, every person is considered a mandated reporter by law. It's simply not safe to try to smooth things over with someone on my own. To make matters worse, your neighbors can be interviewed about you without your knowledge or permission in a CPS investigation. Not only does CPS involvement itself isolate you by inducing fear and shame, so do the lingering effects of not being able to connect with people who are given power over you, or simply now are uncertain if you are an actual abuser and want to avoid you and your children (removing meaningful social connection as one of your community protective factors), in the name of "child protection at all costs." There has to be a better way. #familywellbeing #thrivingfamilies #mandatedreporting #communitysupport #childwelfare #protectivefactors

Neglect constitutes to almost 70% of the reasons children enter foster care. Neglect often stems from systemic issues such as poverty, lack of access to resources, and social isolation. Family separations also disproportionately impact families of color (Kim, 2021). By addressing the root causes of neglect, we can prevent unnecessary family separation and keep children with their families where they belong. Join us on April 8, 2024, for our seminar day entitled "Empowering Communities: Innovative Strategies for Preventing and Responding to Child Neglect," as we explore the prevalence and intersectionality of poverty and neglect while building a shared understanding on how we can support families overloaded by stress. Youth, families, and communities thrive when they are able to seek support without fear of punishment or harm. ProPublica explores the troubling trend, this time in Georgia, of placing children in foster care instead of providing housing assistance to their families. This approach not only separates families, but also costs more than providing them support to stay together. It's time to rethink priorities and invest in solutions that keep families united and supported. A must-read for those advocating for compassionate, family-centered policies. #RethinkChildWelfare https://lnkd.in/eYy9qi7z

As National Social Work Month comes to an end, let's reflect on what we've learned. Hopefully, you know a little more about social work than you did at the beginning of February. But let's not end here. Social work is an integral part of our society, helping to play a crucial role in child protection, investigating allegations of abuse or neglect, providing support to families in crisis, and facilitating foster care and adoption services when necessary. #SocialWorkOpensDoors by connecting community members to the right services, resources, and people they need. So, let's keep the conversation going! Drop a comment below and share what National Social Work Month has taught you.

Did you know that 1 in 17 kids enter foster care? But here's something even more concerning: for Black children, the rate is even higher. It's 1 in 9. And for Native American children, it's 1 in 7. That means a lot more Black and Native American kids end up in foster care compared to other kids. It's important to know these numbers so we can work together to help all children have safe and loving homes. Let's make sure every child gets the support they need! 🌟 Exciting News! Arizona last night passed a game-changing law aimed at helping hundreds more children exit group homes for loving families. Despite many teens in foster care being legally free for adoption, statistics show that only 4% of children aged 16 and older are adopted. This new law is a significant step in ensuring more children have the opportunity to grow up in stable and supportive families. #Arizona #FosterCare #Adoption #Children #FamilySupport 🌟 https://lnkd.in/gVReFNq9
