Last week, the Impark HEALTH team participated in a staff appreciation event at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre in Surrey, British Columbia. The team handed out delicious snacks and interacted with hundreds of healthcare workers and volunteers. Great article below on the benefits of seeing the same GP each and every time you visit your local surgery. According to the study the impact could be the equivalent of increasing the GP workforce by 5%, significantly benefiting both patients and the NHS. With Four-week waits hitting a record high in 2023, with 17.6m appointments taking place at least 28 days after being booked, the study also noted that if all GP practices moved to a model where patients saw the same doctor at each visit, it would significantly reduce doctors’ workloads while improving patient health. Indeed, seeing the same GP – continuity of care – meant people waited on average 18% longer between visits, compared with patients who saw different doctors. Combine this with accessible health literacy and the effects could be enormous. What do you think of the idea of seeing the same GP when you visit your local surgery – a great idea? #healthcare #patienteducation #patientexperience #patientcare #digitalhealthcare

This week’s Tuesday Tips with Tom takes a look at covered benefits. LBIG’s Hospital Indemnity Plus (HIP) policy offers rich benefits and numerous optional riders. However, did you know that some of the policy’s benefits and riders require a hospital stay to activate the benefit? For example, the outpatient therapy and medical devices benefit rider is a great benefit to add to a HIP policy. However, some of its benefits like chiropractic care must be a direct result of a covered hospital stay or outpatient surgery. #HospitalIndemnityPlus #Health

In the last two years, I've had a lot of family members in the hospital. I've shared my inaccessible experiences. Now I have a new one to report on. A family member had surgery last week. Their partner gave us a code to text to a five-digit number. First, autocorrect bungled it by changing it to a word. Watch out for that! (KRVN turned into Kevin 🙄) The second time, it worked! I received these text updates on the surgery. 11:30 AM: The procedure started at 10:26 AM. 12:34 PM: The patient is still in surgery. 1:37 PM: The patient is still in surgery. 3:24 PM: The procedure has been completed. The patient left the OR at 2:10 PM and is recovering. 4:08 PM: The patient was moved from recovery to the nursing unit or outpatient surgery area at 3:58 PM. 6:16 PM: Now that the patient's procedure is complete, no additional messages will be sent. Sign up again for future procedures. Thank you. It would've made a huge difference if I had these updates during my spouse's surgery. But it doesn't address one thing. The doctor was supposed to talk to me after the procedure. I waited three hours. If I had known the doctor wasn't coming, I would've stayed home and worked until my spouse moved into a room. I had no way of contacting anyone. I'm wondering how my healthcare EM folks are feeling about the new TJC requirements for ambulatory and outpatient surgery centers? The increased requirements will put yet another strain on EM programs across the country, but also provides a frame work for a segment of healthcare that has typically been a "if we have time" area. What are your thoughts? #emergencymanagement #emergencypreparedness #healthcareEM #healthcarepreparedness #disaster #thejointcommission #tjc #disasters #morerequirements #accredidation

When the phone lines are jammed with patients seeking care, reception staff can’t be expected to be both call-handler and triage team. But for many practices, this is what happens. Knowle House Surgery in Plymouth set out to change that by partnering with Klinik to transform their approach to triage. The results? 🟢 Phone lines are now clearer for urgent needs, as patients switch to using the online form. 🟢 Patients are directed to the right care, first time 🟢 Remote case closures have increased, minimising the need for face-to-face appointments.
