From both a civil rights and a business perspective, people with disabilities today are underserved by digital products. On the third Thursday each May, we recognize #GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay, aiming to bring attention to digital access and inclusion and make digital products more accessible. This day encourages everyone to #Act in creating an environment around them that supports colleagues with disabilities or neurodivergence. As we continue to educate ourselves, we’ll increase our awareness and be better advocates for #Inclusion of diverse perspectives in our environment. Let’s do our part to create a more empowering environment for all. #QBE #DigitalInclusion #GAAD2024

The narrative around disabilities needs to shift. 👊🏽 I don’t need to “overcome” my blindness—what I need is a world that removes barriers to inclusion. 💡 When we center access and understanding, we all thrive. Blindness isn’t something to fix; the real work is fixing the societal barriers that make it hard for us to exist in the same spaces. 🚧 Let’s push past the outdated ideas of “overcoming” disabilities and focus on building inclusive communities where everyone is valued. 💪🏽 Be an inclusion warrior today and every day! ⚡️ #OvercomeBarriers #InclusionRevolution #DisabilityAwareness #BlindAndThriving #InclusionWarrior #AccessibleSpaces

Last week we published our "Inclusion Frameworks" and outlined three key types of disability inclusion: Gen Pop: The primary goal here is normalization. By featuring disabled individuals in everyday scenarios, this approach challenges and breaks down the concept of ‘otherness’ that often segregates disabled narratives. Targeted Functional Inclusion: Showcasing products that, while useful to the general population, hold additional value for disabled individuals by meeting specific access needs. Narrative-Centric Inclusion: the narrative is intentionally centered around disability. It educates the audience and promotes solutions offered by a brand that specifically address challenges faced by disabled individuals. The launch of Victoria’s Secret & Co. adaptive line fits nicely into the "targeted functional inclusion" category, but still left some to be desired when it comes to utilizing best practices for inclusive content. Here's what we think 💡 #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityMarketing #InclusiveMarketing

🌟 True inclusion for people with disabilities requires a fundamental redesign of society's systems. 🌟 In a powerful piece, Sherry Toh shares the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities like SMA, highlighting how traditional systems often fail to accommodate them. It's time to move beyond mere accommodations and reimagine our societal structures to be inherently inclusive. Here at Wandke Accessibility, we advocate accessibility for all in an increasingly digital and physical world. Universal Design is a design that allows anyone to have access to it regardless of age or ability. No one should be left behind. Just as disability is diverse, so are access needs, as accessibility is not “one-size-fits-all.” To learn more about universal design, look into our training offers on our website. Key takeaways: - Traditional systems weren't designed with disabilities in mind. - Prioritizing feedback from minorities is crucial. - Collaboration and informed redesign can lead to meaningful change. - Let's work together for a more inclusive future! #DisabilityInclusion #UniversalDesign #AccessibilityMatters #InclusiveSociety #RedesignForAll #SMAAwareness #BarrierFree #EquityInDesign #DisabilityRights #AccessibleFuture https://lnkd.in/gTZ7K-5x

Myth vs. Fact: 🛑 Myth: People with disabilities are always dependent on others. Fact: Many individuals with disabilities live independently and thrive in their communities with the right support. 🌟 It's time to challenge these outdated misconceptions and recognize the resilience and achievements of those who demonstrate independence every day. Let’s celebrate their successes and advocate for a more inclusive world. #DisabilityMyths #SupportMatters #Independence #Inclusion #Empowerment

Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Accenture / Ad Council Board of Directors / Champion of Inclusion for All
Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day, a day that highlights the importance of supporting the over 1 billion people worldwide with disabilities. Beyond my personal commitment to accessibility, I’ve learned so much serving as the Co-Chair of the Disability:IN CMO & CCO coalition, and I’m so excited that this group of leaders is growing to include 17 member companies (welcome!). These companies have come together to launch a new resource library to help everyone working in marketing and communications advance disability inclusion. #GAAD serves as a reminder that we have the power to break down barriers and create a more inclusive world. We can help by creating more accessible content for all. Learn more about the coalition and see the resources we've compiled here: https://lnkd.in/dS7my5FG [Image description: The Disability:IN logo is written in blue and green beside the words CMO & CCO Coalition.]
