One non-obvious fact that stands out when comparing the best hires I ever made is that they are fast to respond. It’s not just responding to an interview request. It’s how fast they respond to every message, even after they are hired. It’s an attitude thing. I don’t consider the speed of response when selecting. They compete with other candidates. But more often than not, the fast-to-respond candidates are not only the ones who get hired, but they also perform better. It happened too many times to be just anecdotal. If I get 20 candidate responses, most times the one who gets the job was between the first 3-5 to respond.
