This week, our Project Lead, Elena Rotareanu, prepared a very useful tip, and we’re happy to share it with you. "Think outside the box: avoid using clichés that have already been overused in business writing, are predictable, and fail to convey the unique approach or ideas you want to communicate. Be clear and concise: avoid using metaphors, as they dilute the clarity of your communication. Keep it relevant: don’t use humour that may offend or give people headaches trying to get the joke. Keep it professional: using slang can be confusing, especially when the same slang term can mean different things in different regions. In general, it’s best to stick to 'real words,' ensuring your message is clear, simple, and straight to the point. If you must use them, make sure to explain what they mean." Comment if you have ever had an experience with using any of these and if there were any consequences. How have you dealt with them? #multimedia #elearning #translationservices #localisation #localizationservices

Self-employed professional editor, writer, and plain language consultant bringing human experience, judgment, and critical thinking to clients' communication needs
#Editors, #writers, #PlainLanguage specialists, and other #communications pros, if you haven't yet, check out the 2024 updated professional #editing #standards from #EditorsCanada. The standards include these: A1.4 Support your own choices when asked (for example, refer to style guides, project goals, best practices, user feedback, current references). B3 Structural editing in plain language B3.1 When applying plain language principles in structural editing, do the following: - Ensure that the document has the content that the readers need. - Check that the content of the document is structured so that related information is together and ordered in a way that makes sense for the readers. - Guide the readers to find information easily through such navigational aids as headings and heading levels, a table of contents, and bulleted or numbered lists. - Make sure readers can locate, understand and act on information. - Consider when to use illustrations or media other than text. For these and more standards based on industry best practices, see #ProfessionalEditorialStandards from #EditorsCanada — a great resource for editors, writers, plain-language specialists, and for clients and employers, for #contracts and for #ContinuedProfessionalDevelopment.

I help you build and grow your personal brand on LinkedIn | Ghostwriter and Personal Brand Strategist
This Is What I Mean by ''Simplify Your Content'' It's all about saying things straightforwardly. → Just say what you really mean. Instead of "TOFU," just say "to attract." And instead of "metrics," just say "numbers." I don't complicate things with industry jargon. I keep it as simple as a chat with a friend. This way, everyone gets it, no confusion. Because not everyone speaks English as their first, or even as their second language. If you want your communication to be effective, remember: Complexity is your biggest obstacle. Here's the tip: Use grade 5 level English. (You can check it with the Hemingway editor.) Simplify words → Clarify intent → Strengthen impact. Repost this "clarity check" for others ♻️ P.S. Is English your first language? If not, what is?
