Smarter Every Day is posting a series of videos about the different types of Manufacturing. Even though we are in the industry, sometimes understanding the full scope of another particular process is difficult. In this video they really take their time explaining the process in simpler terms. This would be an excellent series to show students or even employees about our industry and how we overlap our skills to make every day products. https://lnkd.in/g5vpXyES

"Five Whys" -- A small technique for Biggest problems The "Five Whys" is a problem-solving technique that involves asking the question "Why?" multiple times (typically five times) to identify the root cause of a problem. It was developed as part of the Toyota Production System and is often associated with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies. The goal is to dig deeper to uncover its underlying causes. Here's a simplified example to illustrate how the Five Whys works: Problem Statement: The car won't start. Why? The battery is dead. Why? The alternator is not functioning. Why? The alternator belt has broken. Why? The belt was old and not replaced during routine maintenance. In this example, the fifth "Why" reveals the root cause—failure to replace the old alternator belt during routine maintenance. Effectiveness: The effectiveness of the Five Whys technique depends on how well it is implemented and the context in which it is used. #problemsolving #problemsolvingskills #toyota #5whys #5why #solutions

👁️ About five times faster than the blink of an eye: that is the speed at which cut-offs are sheared from heated metal bars on our presses. As breath-takingly quick as this may seem, the process still offers considerable potential to increase efficiency. By developing a 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽, we made a groundbreaking improvement. The innovative component combines much higher shearing quality with less time needed for inspecting the produced parts. Until last year, the servohydraulic bar stop was exclusively used with the Hatebur Hotmatic HM 75. In close cooperation with our customer GKN Automotive, we now installed this system on an AMP 70 for the first time. Working together to create new solutions and always stay on top of the game has always been an important part of our philosophy. GKN Production Manager Jörg Rohles sums it up best: “We started using a HM 75 ten years ago… and have made various refinements in collaboration with Hatebur. The servohydraulic bar stop is now undoubtedly the next evolutionary stage in this area.” Find the full article on the advantages of the servohydraulic bar stop on page 19 of our magazine NetShape: ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eCrV9wGx #forming #forging #forgingindustry

Many companies have attempted to replicate Toyota’s system and track record of results. However few have succeeded in the long run. One secret to Toyota’s success lies not in the present but back in the past when they started their improvement journey. Toyota was not always a successful company and lagged behind western competitors. This session will focus on the early days of the Toyota Production System in the 1950’s and how they got their journey started on the right track with high levels of Lean Stability in the 4M’s of manufacturing.
