Useful tool in our daily workflow

A common issue I see with many of our clients at Hart & Songs is whether they’re correctly collecting their mechanical royalties or if songs are missing from their catalog. One tool I love is The Mechanical Licensing Collective’s Public Search database, which I use to cross-reference my clients' catalogs—even when they’re signed with a publisher or publishing administrator. It’s crucial to regularly verify registrations because I often find gaps where something fell through and recent songs aren’t being collected. Just finished the course “Introduction to Songwriting” by Cliff Goldmacher!  I have been a big fan of music ever since I was in middle school. Beginning with singing at church, to picking up a phone to download Pandora and Spotify to listen to some tunes, to picking up a guitar and play a few chords and learning how to make music on GarageBand, this course has helped embark on a journey of songwriting. When students learn how to build scales, they get to understand the “why” behind the notes rather than just memorising them like a list. It’s like learning the recipe for a cake instead of just memorising how it tastes. When they understand how a scale is put together, like knowing that a major scale is made up of specific steps between notes, they can create any scale, starting from any note. This way, they can apply their knowledge in more situations, like writing their own songs or playing along with different music. It also makes the scales easier to remember because they know how they work, not just the notes themselves. This approach helps them become more confident and creative musicians. Songwriting starts from here. Music is all there.

Why do you want to integrate the arts into your teaching? What are you trying to accomplish? For example, when I integrate music listening experiences into my classroom, I am teaching students as much about the music and its meaning to us as I am using music to help us write great poems and stories. Students first experience the music (one song for one week), then they are ready to use those experiences to develop their writing skills. THE COPYRIGHTS OF ARTISTS, AUTHORS AND PERFORMERS: WHAT'S NEW IN THE AGCOM REGULATION Claudia Scapicchio and Costanza Manavello have written the article entitled: “The copyrights of artists, authors and performers: what's new in the AGCOM Regulation”. The Regulation will enter into force on 14th June 2024 and the sectors most affected are likely to be music, publishing and audiovisual arts. Italy has taken a further step in the implementation of EU Directive 2019/790 (Copyright Directive), specifically relating to the implementation of Title IV, Chapter 3, entitled “Fair remuneration in exploitation contracts of authors and performers”.
