DHENKANAL SET TO HOST METRO RAIL AND SCIENCE CITY PROJECTS, BOOSTING MOBILITY AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN REGION. The Odisha government is set to enhance Dhenkanal's infrastructure with the introduction of a metro rail system and the establishment of a Science City. Announced by Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, these projects will boost regional development. The Science City, with an estimated budget of Rs 1,200 crore, will be constructed in Kapilash and will serve as a hub for research, education, and technological innovation. In addition, the construction of a Ring Road will improve connectivity to Kapilash. The metro rail project will offer better transport options, improving mobility for residents. During the district-level agricultural machinery fair at Mini Stadium, Patra emphasized the importance of science in boosting agricultural productivity. He encouraged farmers to adopt advanced machinery for better yields and support the state's goal of agricultural self-sufficiency. On World Soil Day 2024, celebrated on 5th December, SUVIDHA highlighted the vital role of soil in sustaining life through a series of engaging activities across multiple locations. Workshops focused on the significance of soil and its components, bio-fertilizer and compost preparation, crop rotation, soil health enhancement, promoting sustainable agricultural practices were organized. Participants were also trained in soil sampling, pH testing, and nutrient management, with an emphasis on increasing soil organic carbon for long-term sustainability. Interactive art activities involving students added a creative touch, raising awareness about the importance of soil conservation. The celebration spanned several project locations: HRDP Project in Jorhat, Assam, and Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh; PRAWAH Project in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh; Sangam Project in West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya; Krishak Kranti Project in Derabassi, Punjab; and Unnati Project in Solan and Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh. 🌍 Mapping Vegetation Health in Bhopal (2023) using SAVI 🌿 This visualization showcases the Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) for Bhopal over the year 2023. By leveraging remote sensing data from Sentinel-2 satellites, SAVI helps in analyzing vegetation health while accounting for soil brightness, making it an ideal tool for regions with sparse vegetation or exposed soil. 🔎 Key insights: The map reveals areas with varied vegetation health, ranging from dense green regions indicating healthy vegetation to sparse or non-vegetated areas marked in red. The use of SAVI enhances the accuracy of vegetation monitoring, particularly in areas where soil influence could distort the results from other vegetation indices like NDVI. Remote sensing technology is invaluable for environmental monitoring, urban planning, and sustainable development.
