Naturally, I had to chuckle the other week when my spouse's silly Instagram reel featuring our kindergartener's class Thanksgiving cookbook started doing numbers. 447k views later... https://lnkd.in/gRNGeqBG The truth is that it's impossible to know if a piece of content will take off. But you can create the conditions to give it the best chance possible. That starts by making quality content. Here's the playbook I've used over the last decade-plus: • Provoke an emotional response. Piss the viewer off. Make them laugh. • Hook them in the first 3 seconds. • Mobile first. Most folks will watch on a tiny screen. Watch rough cuts on your phone, not your giant monitor. • Meet the moment. Timeliness matters. • Line up influencers in advance to repost the content within hours of it going live. • Upload using the platform's media player, don't just link to YouTube so you can watch the metrics in one place. For too many, "focus groups" and "research" equate to knocking off the rough and interesting edges of an idea in pursuit of something that will test well and win more universal approval.
