🚀 Innovation and Sustainability in Chilean Aquaculture 🌊 I’m excited to share an article we recently published in InfoSALMON about Brynsløkken AS, the Norwegian company where I recently started working. Over the past three months, I’ve had the opportunity to be part of a team that’s committed to innovation and sustainability in antifouling coatings for aquaculture nets. In Chile, we’ve made a significant impact by reducing operational costs for the aquaculture industry, optimizing net usage, and improving fish welfare 🐟. Products like Notorius, distributed through VESO Chile, have proven their effectiveness by improving the health of fish through cleaner nets, which lead to better oxygen flow and feed conversion. Land-Based Aquaculture: Progress and Innovations Eighteen months ago, I shared insights on the key factors critical to the growth of the land-based aquaculture industry, especially focusing on recirculated aquaculture systems (RAS). https://lnkd.in/dXgg2x3w Since then, we've seen significant strides in genetics and feed, thanks to the pioneering work of companies dedicated to advancing these fields. Our recent presentation at the RAStech Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, provided further insights into these advancements and how our "Farm in a Box" initiative addresses many of these crucial factors. Farm in a Box: Tackling Industry Challenges Our "Farm in a Box" initiative is directly addressing several of the key factors I previously highlighted: Technology Industrialization: By leveraging modular systems and standardized designs, "Farm in a Box" simplifies the construction and operational processes, making land-based aquaculture more accessible and economically viable. Cost Reduction of Construction: The modular nature of our systems allows for faster, more cost-effective construction, utilizing pre-fabricated components that reduce both time and investment per kilogram of salmon produced. AI Integration: Our systems incorporate advanced AI to optimize data collection and analysis across various operational parameters. This integration enhances decision-making, reduces feed loss, and ensures consistent production quality. Circular Sustainability: We are committed to sustainability by converting waste streams into valuable byproducts like biogas and fertilizers. This circular approach not only minimizes environmental impact but also creates additional revenue streams. Education and Tools: We are investing in training softwares to equip the next generation of aquaculture professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge. Our standardized operating procedures and advanced management tools are designed to support efficient and effective farm operations. Conclusion The land-based aquaculture industry has made tremendous progress in the last few years. With innovations in genetics, feed, and system design, we are well on our way to meeting the growing demand for sustainable, high-quality RAS produced fish. Our "Farm in a Box" initiative embodies our commitment to addressing the critical challenges of the industry and driving forward a sustainable future for aquaculture.

Seems like betting on a system that’s run successfully for a few hundred million years could be the smart play. Being nature-based means being efficiency-based. If you’re a risk-averse investor, this is the direction that has the potential for exponential rewards. Once natural systems get going, you just get out of the way.
