A big issue for organisations struggling with employee retention is not the strength of their EVP, but rather the lack of communication around it. As highlighted in the quote below from the article: “Communication is the biggest barrier for HR leaders when it comes to EVPs. Our survey found that 75 per cent of HR leaders admitted they are not doing a great job of communicating their EVP internally.” It’s a powerful reminder of why communicating EVP correctly is crucial: 1. Attracting top talent 2. Boosting employee engagement 3. Improving retention 4. Supporting diversity and inclusion 5. Increasing employee advocacy – word of mouth is the best marketing, especially in recruitment! #recruitment #HR #employeengagement #EVP

HR Organizational Development Specialist | Employee Engagement | Recruitment & Onboarding | Passionate about Driving Growth & Efficiency
I couldn’t agree more. We’re not just here to enforce rules or fix problems. We get where employees are coming from because we’re right there with them—dealing with our own tasks, pressures, and expectations. But when things get tough, we’re the ones people turn to, and sometimes that means we take the brunt of the frustrations. At the same time, we have that wider perspective—seeing how the company’s culture works, understanding the day-to-day challenges people face, and knowing where the organization is headed. It’s a tough balancing act.
HR is Also an Employee Over coffee the other day, a few friends and I found ourselves discussing work, life, and the various roles we play in our professional lives. One point really stood out—HR professionals often get seen as the “gatekeepers” of an organization, but let’s not forget something fundamental: HR is also an employee. Being in HR means balancing both sides—managing organizational needs while also being part of the same ecosystem. We feel the same pressures, deadlines, and expectations as anyone else. We celebrate wins, handle setbacks, and navigate office dynamics. But there’s an added layer: the responsibility to support others through their own challenges. In these conversations, it became clear that empathy is key. Understanding that the person sitting across from you in HR is dealing with the same work-life balance challenges can foster a more collaborative relationship. HR professionals aren’t just the people who handle performance reviews or facilitate tough conversations; we’re employees too, with shared goals, challenges, and aspirations. So next time you're speaking with HR, remember we’re in this together. We’re navigating the same waters, and our aim is to create an environment where everyone, including ourselves, can thrive.
