We are thrilled to announce the release of Inclusive Prosperity Capital's Annual Impact Report for 2023! This past year marked our largest investment year ever, with nearly $15 million in IPC capital deployed and over $33 million in total project investments. Our projects, which spanned 13 states and territories, supported affordable housing, small commercial solar installations, and mission-aligned developers. Not only did we launch the Smart-E Loan Program in the Southwest, but we also joined the Justice Climate Fund and submitted our #SolarForAll application under the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund of the Inflation Reduction Act. These achievements are a testament to the incredible efforts of our team, the unwavering support of our Board of Directors, and our valued partners, funders, and investors. Most investors have heard of bonds, but not all understand the ins and outs—and in our experience, even fewer know about the existence of “green,” sustainable or impact bonds. Here’s a rundown of the essentials, and what we offer: 🔎A bond is typically a lower-risk loan that you make to a company or government in exchange for fixed interest paid out at regular intervals. 👉A bond fund, like our Genus Global Impact Bond Fund, places your investment into a range of bonds at once, and you receive monthly payments that reflect an average of all. ✅The bonds in our fund contribute to projects with proven environmental and social impacts—in areas like renewable energy, green buildings and public transportation—across the U.S. and Canada; benchmarked against the US Aggregate Bond Index for risk and return. 💡Bottom line? Bonds represent another way to invest, balance your portfolio and fund positive impacts with your savings. What should we know about Green Bonds before investing in? Green bonds are reshaping how we invest in our planet's future. By channeling funds into projects with environmental and climate benefits, such as renewable energy and clean transportation, green bonds offer a path to sustainable development. A prime example is DFCC Bank's recent issuance, focusing on solar PV power generation, highlighting the potential impact of these investments. Since the European Investment Bank launched the first green bond in 2007, the market has surged, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, which now holds a 32% share worth USD 190 billion. This growth reflects a rising consciousness about climate change and a growing investor appetite for opportunities that combine financial returns with environmental stewardship. To maintain the integrity of green bonds, standards like the Green Bond Principles and the Climate Bonds Standard guide the use of proceeds and project evaluation. However, investors must navigate challenges such as "greenwashing," emphasizing the importance of transparency, third-party verification (e.g., DFCC Bank's 'A-(lka)' rating by Fitch Ratings and KPMG's independent report), and due diligence to ensure investments truly contribute to sustainability. As we move towards a low-carbon economy, the green bond market is set to expand, introducing innovations like sustainability-linked bonds. For investors, understanding aspects like project eligibility, risk-return profiles, and the regulatory environment is crucial for making informed decisions that align with both financial goals and environmental values. 🌎 Last week was a big week for the #VoluntaryCarbonMarket ✅ To start, the Biden Administration threw its weight behind the #VCM in efforts to tackle #climatechange. Secretary of Treasury Yellen said it right: “We need to use all the tools at our disposal…harnessing the power of markets and private capital is critical, and this includes efforts to grow high-integrity voluntary carbon markets.” ✅ To end the week, Ecosystem Marketplace put out its latest State of the Voluntary Carbon Markets. As improvements in credit quality hit production and prices in some corners of the market, we’re encouraged by the continued year-on-year increases we see in the Improved Forest Management projects we focus on here at Finite Carbon. You can find Ecosystem Marketplace’s latest report, here: https://lnkd.in/dSZVRx9T #naturalclimatesolutions #leadership #sustainability #investment
