This month, 𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 are receiving recognition, yet there's still a lack of understanding about our profession and our role. For decades, crafting a concise elevator pitch that fully captures what an occupational therapist does has been our aim. Let's view the definition as an ongoing project. Shoutout to @cari.ebert.seminars for coining the term "brain architects" for pediatric therapists! How else would you define an occupational therapist? #OTMonth #ILoveOT #AOTA #PedsOT

This #EIinsights, we’re bringing awareness to the findings of a 2023 Australian Occupational Therapy Journal article on maternal health – an emerging area of practice in occupational therapy. In the article, “Occupational therapy in maternal health: Exploring the Barkin Index of Maternal Functioning as a potential tool”, researchers found that occupational therapists and other health professionals focused more on supporting the baby in post-natal care, rather than the mother. The article, which drew on interviews with 13 first-time mothers, outlined how mothers should be the focus, as their wellbeing can directly impact the child’s. It is also emphasised that holistic care is essential to supporting mothers through the occupational disruptions that come with motherhood. Are you an occupational therapist or a first-time parent? Join us for our 24 July 2024 webinar “The emotional life of new parents and why it matters”, with one of the article authors: Dr Belinda McLean. ✨ This was an inspiring webinar presented by Rachel, especially for OT Week 2023! I should know as I watched it a million times while editing for our YouTube channel 👉 https://lnkd.in/e88p2HzR However, I made the rookie mistake of relying on the socials to create captions for me, which they didn't. 😒 So, then I went on a mad mission to find free software to do this for me and ended up teaching myself how to write a .srt file. Every cloud... Has anyone else had a #MarketingMishap this week? Or, do you know of a simpler way to ensure your videos are captioned and accessible for all? Help a girl out 🙏 #Marketing #ContentProduction #Content #Webinar #Accessibility #Awareness
Grasp the nettle! 🌿 This time last week our Senior Regional Advisor and qualified Occupational Therapist, Dr Rachel Russell, presented a special webinar to celebrate OT Week 2023. Occupational Therapy Week 2023, which took place 6-12 November, is a UK awareness campaign that Foundations feel passionately about! Rachel shares her knowledge and experience of occupational therapy and its role in assessment for Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs). She explores current health and social care policies, such as the Intermediate Care Model, and why a holistic, person-centred approach is crucial for elderly, disabled and vulnerable people to access home adaptations. Occupational Therapy (or OT) is a therapy used to help people participate in life activities and daily tasks that are essential for human function. It can also be used for people who want to regain skills after a physical, mental, medical, or emotional change in their abilities. Occupational therapist work on skills like personal hygiene, diet and nutrition, mobility, decision making, and more. Occupational therapists work with both neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals to help master the goals that are set in the beginning of the program. Occupational therapists (commonly referred to as OT’) use a variety of methods that are specific to each client to promote individuality and independence. Children on the spectrum can utilize ABA therapy, OT, or both to treat their diagnosis. #gemsbygabriel #gemsbygabrielLLC #NOWOPEN #neurodiversityadvocate #autismawarness #autismparent #neurodiversityacceptance
