Research Update! Perceived challenges of early childhood educators in promoting unstructured outdoor play Unstructured outdoor play has been recognized for its beneficial impacts on children’s healthy development; however, unfortunately, opportunities for children to engage in meaningful play are limited. Early learning and childcare centres can be essential settings for unstructured outdoor play, and educators can play a vital role in supporting children’s opportunities, yet they face numerous barriers. This research examines experiences and perceived challenges in promoting children’s unstructured outdoor play. Participants’ identified challenges were mapped on the ecological system and ranged from microsystem concerns (e.g. knowledge and skills) to mesosystem concerns (e.g. lack of shared understanding with parents and colleagues), exosystem concerns (e.g. licensing regulations) and macrosystem concerns (e.g. societal risk aversion). The paper recommends evidence-based strategies to address each of the identified barriers, targeting each ecological system level. https://lnkd.in/en5bVvMJ #Education · #Learning · #Teacher · #Students · #Teachersofinstagram · #Learn #socialinclusion #girlup #socialchange#leaders #success #successful #entrepreneurlifestyle #entrepreneurlife #mentorship #entrepreneurs #inclusionrevolution #diversitymatters #diversity #disabilityawareness #incluzun #inclusion #EdTech #Edchat #Learning #Teaching #Leadership #Elearning

Earlier is Better! Why Early Intervention! The connections in a baby’s brain are most adaptable in the first three years of life. These connections, also called neural circuits, are the foundation for learning, behavior, and health. Over time, these connections become harder to change as the kid grows. Benefits include: 🔹 Provide resources, support, and information: Early intervention equips parents with resources, support, and information to enhance their child’s development and skills. Collaborating with healthcare providers, such as specialized childcare therapists, empowers parents to confidently facilitate their child’s development. 🔹 Improve relationships: Delayed communication and language skills hinder a child’s ability to understand and interact with peers, making it challenging to develop friendships and solve conflicts. Early intervention helps children learn effective communication, express feelings, and interact with friends, fostering healthier relationships. 🔹 Improve behavior: Children with delayed development and communication may exhibit challenging behaviors due to frustration. Early intervention provides support and strategies to address these challenges, helping children express their needs effectively. 🔹 Promote future success in school: Language development lays the groundwork for literacy and academic success. Strong language skills correlate with imagination, creativity, and eventually, reading and writing proficiency. Oral health inequities in schools are a growing concern. How do we address them? ✨ With many children from underserved communities lacking access to proper dental care, here are some factors that contribute to this disparity: 1. Household Income: Low-income families often cannot afford regular dental visits or preventive dental procedures, leading to untreated cavities and long-term oral health issues as well as psychosocial effects on the child in school and otherwise. 2. Parental Education & Awareness: Parents with limited knowledge about oral health may not prioritise dental care, leaving children vulnerable to poor hygiene habits, increasing the risk of dental problems as they grow.. 3. Parental Attention: Busy professional schedules can prevent working parents from ensuring their children receive regular dental care or even supervise daily brushing routines. This unintentional neglect contributes to the oral health gap among students. ✨ Inclusive School Oral Health Programs can help provide equitable oral care by the following: - Preventive Care: Regular screenings, fluoride treatments, and sealants in schools can catch and address issues early and thereby reduce the need for costly treatments later. - Oral Health Education: Integrating oral hygiene lessons into the curriculum helps teach children good habits, ensuring they have the knowledge to take care of their teeth, even if they lack support at home. - Parental Engagement: Schools can also educate parents, providing them with resources to increase awareness and support their children's oral health at home. It is critical to ensure that all students, regardless of background, receive the care they need to maintain good oral health and succeed academically. Let’s make oral health equity a priority for every school. #schooloralhealth #oralhealtheducation
